Now that the official PlayStation YouTube channel is active again after the holidays, games like Ebola Village are getting more attention.
People are criticizing the platform for advertising this new game, which is very similar to Resident Evil Village and other games in that series.
I’m really excited for this game, which is coming to both PS5 and PS4 on January 23rd! It’s pretty obvious where the developers got their ideas from – even the logo looks a lot like something out of Capcom’s famous series.
However, here’s how dev Axyos – based in Georgia – describes it:

Ebola Village is a modern horror game inspired by classic 90s survival games. You play as Maria, who starts investigating strange occurrences after a news report about a dangerous biological threat interrupts her TV show. Driven by concern for her family, she travels to a remote village to check on her mother and ex-husband, Ruslan, but quickly finds herself facing terrifying events. The game focuses on uncovering the village’s hidden history and discovering the truth behind what’s happening, all within a deeply immersive and unsettling rural setting.
A lot of people are criticizing Sony for featuring this game, but it’s common for publishers to pay to have their trailers shown on Sony’s official YouTube channel, which has nearly 17 million followers.
“What next?” one user wrote. “COVID City?” Another added: “Tuberculosis Town next.”
Recently, the PlayStation Store has been criticized for hosting a lot of low-quality games. Just this week, an independent game developer claimed that the new game, Ghostly Whiskers, copied their original concept.
It’s unclear what the best approach is. While carefully selecting games seems like a good idea, it could also hide games you might enjoy.
We believe improving how easily games are found is key. If the PlayStation Store can prioritize showing the best titles, and filter out the daily flood of low-quality releases, it should solve a lot of the current problems.
