Update [Fri 1st Aug 2025, 6:30pm]:
Recently, we’ve gathered some additional insights regarding the China Hero Project, thanks to Daniel Ahmad from Niko Partners.
The program, initially designed in 2016 for cultivating local development skills, has now entered its fourth stage. Sony is intensifying its initiatives to promote and globally distribute outstanding Chinese games that have been locally created.
At the moment, they are open to receiving ideas for fresh initiatives, and they plan on enhancing their existing network of resources, which currently offers funding, marketing aid, and assistance.
As an enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that Virtuous is now joining forces with us for prospective collaborative projects. They’ll be lending a hand in exploring co-development possibilities. Meanwhile, RichTap steps up to enhance the tactile experience by focusing on haptic feedback. Lastly, our very own UI/UX team from PS Studios will offer their expertise, providing evaluation, artistic direction, and valuable feedback throughout the process.
Our primary objective is to assist China in creating more outstanding video games that are suitable for both PlayStation 5 (PS5) and personal computers (PC), aiming for global success. Previously, we’ve witnessed some successful releases, and Sony is eagerly anticipating discovering the next significant titles that can strengthen its brand association with their console.
On the eve of ChinaJoy 2025, Sony hosted a press event in Beijing where they unveiled the upcoming phase of their China Hero Project.
During the entire presentation, they mentioned their plans to fund two games – a third-person shooter titled EXILEDGE, and a character action game named Daba: Land of Water Scar.
In the presentation, they shared that they are going to support the development of two games: a third-person shooter called EXILEDGE and an action game featuring characters set in Daba: Land of Water Scar.
As a gaming enthusiast, I forged some tactical partnerships with the creators behind the remake of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Virtuous, and RichTap. These collaborations promise to bring exciting new experiences to our shared gaming world!
During the presentation, it wasn’t explicitly stated, but it seems reasonable to assume that all the aforementioned projects will be exclusive to the PlayStation 5, given that the company investing in them is also the platform holder. Moreover, they have recently financed the upcoming game Lost Soul Aside, set to release next month on both PS5 and PC.
EXILEDGE is characterized as a “rapid, third-person shooter video game” that combines shooting mechanics with character action features. The developers are constructing it utilizing the Unreal Engine.
Meanwhile, Daba: Land of Water Scar is an action game telling the tale of a “humanoid clay puppet”.
Over the upcoming weekend, expect updates on the China Hero Project, encompassing gameplay demos and trailer releases. We’ll keep you posted with all the latest developments right here! Meanwhile, I’m curious about your opinions regarding these fresh collaborations.
