It looks like Sony’s San Diego Studio, the team behind the popular MLB The Show baseball games, is finally planning to release the series on PC.
MLB pushed PlayStation to release its baseball games on more consoles, meaning the latest versions are now playable on Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
Despite the fact that the company releases most of its exclusive games on Steam, a PC version of MLB The Show has been noticeably missing for a while now.
We believe the developer likely took a cautious approach, building upon their existing systems over time rather than making drastic changes. They were probably also wary of introducing any unfair advantages, especially given the popularity of their Diamond Dynasty card-collecting mode.
But now, it’s preparing to release its first “AAA PC title”.
A job listing for a Senior Graphics PC Programmer reveals:
We’re looking for a skilled Senior PC Graphics Programmer to help us make our top-quality PC game look and run its best. You’ll be building and improving the graphics systems for PC, making sure they perform well and look amazing on different computer setups.
The job description also details responsibilities focused on PCs, specifically utilizing technologies offered by companies like NVIDIA and AMD.
San Diego Studio has assisted with other game series in the past, such as ModNation Racers. However, in this case, they’re most likely talking about their work on MLB The Show.
It’s unclear if MLB The Show 26 will come to PC, or if development is focused on the next installment, MLB The Show 27. It likely depends on how far along the game is in production.
Look, I don’t think *MLB The Show* gets the love it deserves around here, but it consistently sells really well for Sony, year after year. It’s not quite the king of sports games like it was back on the PS3, but it’s still a super solid and reliable franchise overall. I always know I’m getting a good experience with it.
Bringing the game to PC is a huge deal, honestly. It’ll definitely help more people play it and keep the series super popular – I think it’s a safe bet it’ll continue to sell really well.
There’s also talk of a mobile version, suggesting Sony is aiming to make this baseball game accessible to as many fans as possible, both in the US and internationally.
