Some viewers worried after yesterday’s State of Play presentation that Santa Monica Studio’s next major game might be the previously announced God of War Trilogy Remake.
We know you’re eager to see what we’ve been working on, and we’re thrilled to finally share something new with you.
The good news is that it’s not all the first-party developer has cooking.
As many of you likely know, Cory Barlog wasn’t directly involved in the day-to-day development of God of War Ragnarok, as he was focusing on a different project.
To clear up any confusion, a well-known insider named Shinobi602 has stated on the ResetEra forums that this project is completely separate from the recently announced remakes.
He emphasized that we might get a look at whatever Santa Monica Studio is working on this year, possibly during the State of Play in May or later at The Game Awards. A release in 2027 seems like a realistic possibility.
Look, everything I’m hearing is still just a rumour, and Shinobi602 is right – things can always change. But honestly, it sounds like Santa Monica Studio has a lot more awesome stuff in the works, and I’m really excited about what they might do next!
Bloomberg’s Jason Schrier has suggested that this project isn’t entirely new, but it will likely feel like a fresh start.
We think the next God of War game will explore a new mythology, possibly Ancient Egypt – a popular idea fans have discussed for a long time.
