Sophie Turner Addresses Approach to Tomb Raider, (And “Sex Bombshell” Isn’t Happening)

Filming has started on the upcoming live-action Tomb Raider series, starring Sophie Turner as Lara Croft. Recently, the first images of Turner in the role were released, capturing the character’s familiar look from the games and movies. Turner has now shared her vision for the character, emphasizing that she’s deliberately moving away from portraying Lara Croft as a stereotypical ‘sex symbol’.

In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, Sophie Turner discussed how much effort she put into preparing for the show. She explained that her portrayal of the character will focus on her inner life and motivations, rather than just her attractiveness, which is a common focus in the games and films. Turner wants to highlight the character’s strength and confidence, stating, ‘It’s about her and her story and what drives her.’ She emphasized that this character is ‘so unashamedly capable’ and doesn’t shy away from showcasing her abilities.

The new series immediately sparked conversation about how it compares to past versions of Tomb Raider and the actresses who’ve played Lara Croft. Millie Bobby Brown’s portrayal strongly resembles Lara as she appeared in the original games. Given the compelling backstory and character work done in the Survivor trilogy, this series seems poised to blend that depth with the classic look of the early games – a perfect combination. We’re excited to see what this creative team brings to the franchise.

Sophie Turner’s Tomb Raider Training Is More Intense Than Game of Thrones and X-Men

Sophie Turner is known for appearing in big action series like Game of Thrones and X-Men. However, she says the physical training for Tomb Raider is far more demanding than anything she’s experienced before, but it’s actually been a surprisingly good challenge.

Turner shared that her experience training for Tomb Raider has made her feel much more confident walking around London with her children. She explained that as a mother, she often imagines dangerous situations and how she’d react. Previously, her instinct was to grab her kids and run, but now she feels capable of defending them physically. “I now really feel like I could protect them,” she said.

I’ve never prepared for a role quite like this one. While I needed to be fit for ‘X-Men,’ my character’s powers meant I didn’t have to do a lot of physical training. I was surprised by how much my body could actually handle. It feels like a real accomplishment, even before filming begins,” Turner explained.

The live-action Tomb Raider series doesn’t currently have a release date.
