Sophie Turner to Play Lara Croft in Amazon’s Tomb Raider Series

Sophie Turner will play Lara Croft, the famous character from the Tomb Raider video game series, in a new Prime Video show. Filming is already underway.

Turner clarified she won’t be playing the character as a stereotypical ‘sex symbol,’ but instead as a powerful, complex, and genuine person. In an interview with The Los Angeles Times, she jokingly said there would be ‘no overly exaggerated physical features.’ Her goal is to honor the role and its story, avoiding clichés and portraying a more realistic character.

She’s well-suited for action-adventure roles, having previously played Jean Grey in both “X-Men: Apocalypse” and “Dark Phoenix.” In a recent interview, she also expressed her desire to continue playing complex and powerful characters.

Turner explained that she wants to focus on the character’s personality and motivations, not just her appearance, which often gets a lot of attention. She emphasized that the character is strong and confident, and doesn’t try to downplay her abilities.

Currently, fans believe the show will premiere on Prime Video sometime between 2027 and 2028. While most of the main actors have been chosen, details about the story and how faithful it will be to the original games are still unknown.

From what I’m hearing from Daisy Ridley and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, this new Tomb Raider series is going to be less about explosions and more about Lara Croft herself. They’re clearly aiming for a really character-focused story, digging into who she is as a person.
