Sophie Turner’s Tomb Raider Injury Halts Filming

Filming for the upcoming Tomb Raider movie has been temporarily paused after star Sophie Turner was injured on set. Production will resume as she recovers.

Sophie Turner suffered a minor injury, pausing Tomb Raider filming

The production of the new live-action series, starring a former ‘Game of Thrones’ actor as Lara Croft, has temporarily stopped due to an injury. Amazon MGM Studios released a statement to Entertainment Weekly saying the injury is not serious.

Sophie Turner recently suffered a small injury, causing a temporary halt to filming so she can recover. The studio hopes to restart production quickly. Filming began on January 15th. Though fans were excited when Sophie Turner was announced as part of the cast last September, a release date for the series hasn’t been set yet.

Since its debut in 1996, the Tomb Raider video game series has consistently been popular for film adaptations. Angelina Jolie first played Lara Croft in the 2001 movie, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, which earned more than twice its production cost. A follow-up film, The Cradle of Life, came out in 2003 and brought in $160 million globally.

As a huge Tomb Raider fan, I was thrilled when they rebooted the series in 2018 with Alicia Vikander – and it paid off, the movie made more than twice what it cost to make! Now, I’m even more excited because Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the genius behind Fleabag, is taking the lead on the next one. She’s the creative force driving the whole project, and honestly, I couldn’t ask for a better person to reimagine Lara Croft.

I was so thrilled to hear Sophie Turner was cast as Lara! Phoebe Waller-Bridge announced it and seemed really excited too, saying it’s a dream to work on a big show with a character she’s loved since childhood. And the cast is amazing – Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Bill Paterson, and Celia Imrie are all joining them! It’s going to be incredible.
