We don’t usually cover news about the PlayStation 3 anymore, but it looks like Netflix still supports Sony’s older console.
I just fired up Netflix on my PS3, and it’s telling me it won’t work on the console anymore after March 2nd, 2026. I saw a bunch of people talking about it on Reddit, so it looks like it’s really happening!
The streaming service launched on the PS3 in 2009, initially through Blu-ray discs, and then with a dedicated app in the US around a year later. It had been available on the console for almost 20 years, which is a remarkably long time.
It’s sad when older consoles lose features and services, but it’s understandable. Fewer and fewer people are still using them, especially since newer consoles have been released.
Sony previously tried to close the PlayStation Store for PS3 and Vita, but reversed their decision after a strong public reaction demanding it stay open.
The PS3 is still a useful console. Even though it will no longer have Netflix next month, it’s the only gaming console from that era that will still let you buy digital games online.
