Soulja Boy has found himself in more legal trouble.
According to TopMob News, the musician known for his hit song “Crank That (Soulja Boy)” (whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way) was taken into custody on a weapons-related charge following a traffic stop in West Hollywood, Los Angeles.
Approximately 2:30 a.m. on August 3, police pulled over a vehicle at the crossroads of Melrose Ave and Genesee Ave. During this stop, Soulja Boy, one of the passengers, was taken into custody for possessing a firearm as a previously convicted felon, according to the Los Angeles Police Department’s announcement.
At approximately 6 a.m., a 35-year-old individual was arrested and taken into custody at the LAPD Metropolitan Detention Center, as confirmed by records from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. It remains uncertain whether Soulja Boy has been freed or if he is still being held in detention.
TopMob News has reached out to Soulja Boy’s rep for comment and has yet to hear back.
On more than one occasion, the musician who’s famous for “Turn My Swag On” has faced arrests related to gun possession. In fact, back in 2019, Soulja Boy was incarcerated for approximately three and a half months due to a probation violation following his arrest on charges of carrying firearms and ammunition, as per the Los Angeles County Superior Courts.

Soulja Boy’s lawyer Rickey Ivie slammed the decision at the time.
In his statement to NBC News, he expressed regret that the trial was potentially influenced by unfounded assumptions and misinterpretations about the culture at hand. Mr. Way is determined to exercise his options after the trial and strive for a fair outcome in this case.
Speaking as a lifestyle advisor, I must mention that the latest legal troubles of this rapper have surfaced not long after a court decision ordered him to compensate an unnamed former assistant. The reasons for the payment stem from allegations of assault, sexual battery, gender violence, emotional distress infliction, and wage-related issues. It serves as a reminder for everyone, especially those in high-profile positions, about the importance of respecting all individuals and adhering to employment laws.
In April, a California court granted the accuser a compensation of $4 million, according to the plaintiff’s legal representatives.
