I’m so excited! Compulsion Games just dropped a new trailer for South of Midnight, and it looks amazing. It might seem a little weird seeing a new trailer since the game came out last year, but it’s because they’re finally bringing it to PS5! We were originally told it would be here in the spring, but now we have a firm date: March 31st! I can’t wait to play it on my PS5.
That leads us to another point of uncertainty: the Nintendo Switch 2 version. The developers haven’t said if it will come out at the same time as other versions or later, so we’ll just have to wait for more information.
Even if you’re not familiar with the genre, South of Midnight is a great action-adventure game that fans will likely enjoy. The game, currently available on Xbox Series X/S and PC, tells the story of Hazel, who is searching for her mother after losing everything in a flood. Her quest leads her to discover the mysterious Strands and learn about her family history as a Weaver.
Okay, so this game is seriously cool – it’s like a Southern Gothic fairytale where I play as Hazel, fighting these creepy creatures called Haints with some awesome magical weapons. But honestly, the thing that really grabbed me wasn’t just the music (which is amazing!), it was the way they told the story with stop-motion animation. It felt like watching a proper animated movie, and it totally pulled me into the adventure.
You can find a more in-depth look at the game in our Xbox review. With over a million players trying South of Midnight in its first month, it will be interesting to see how the PS5 version is received.
