Okay, so I was really excited about *South of Midnight* when it was first announced, and now it’s getting even better! Compulsion Games – they’re owned by Microsoft – just revealed it’s coming to PlayStation 5 *and* the new Nintendo Switch 2 in Spring 2026. Originally it was just planned for Xbox and PC, so this is a huge surprise and I’m thrilled more people will get to experience this southern gothic adventure!
With this release, South of Midnight becomes the first game from Xbox Game Studios to be available on the new Switch 2 console.
South of Midnight is an action-packed adventure game set in a fantastical version of the American South. Players take on the role of Hazel, a woman who discovers she has a mysterious and powerful ability called ‘weaving’. She must battle terrifying creatures known as haints and lift a dark curse that has fallen upon her homeland, all while meeting memorable characters inspired by Southern folklore, like the legendary Two-Toed Tom.
This game is the third release from Compulsion Games, the studio behind We Happy Few and Contrast. It’s their first project since being acquired by Microsoft in 2018. Before its official announcement, the game was known internally as Project Midnight.
Compulsion Games unexpectedly revealed the news on Twitter right before The Game Awards began. We can probably expect to hear more specifics about the release date during the live show.
This is a developing story…
