The animated sitcom “South Park” has entered one of its most unpredictable seasons ever, reintroducing an old character that fans haven’t heard from in two decades. Unlike previous seasons, “South Park” Season 27 is following a unique release schedule, with new episodes airing every fortnight, offering viewers more time to digest each episode before the next one arrives. This experimental approach has also led to some surprises regarding which characters are featured in the ongoing storylines.
Fans of South Park might have observed that the episodes from Season 27 often resemble earlier ones or resurrect familiar humor, as demonstrated by their portrayal of President Donald Trump which recalls their depiction of Saddam Hussein. Yet, alongside these nods to yesteryears, the creative team is also reviving older characters such as Wing, Tuong Lu Kim’s wife, who hasn’t spoken since her initial appearance in the series during Season 9’s “Wing” back in 2005.
Wing Surprisingly Returns to South Park After 20 Years
In Season 9’s episode titled “Wing,” Tuong Lu Kim’s onscreen spouse, Wing Han Tsang, initially appeared. This episode was remarkable as it showcased the real-life singer, who creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone needed to secure permission from to incorporate her songs into the plot. Although she made a brief, non-verbal cameo since that iconic debut, Wing reappeared in Season 27 of South Park with a speaking role.
In the thrilling fourth episode of the season, titled “Wok Is Dead,” I found myself immersed in an exciting adventure as poor ol’ Butters was duped into tracking down a highly coveted Labubu for the seldom-seen character Red. This episode, interestingly enough, boosts Red’s presence significantly.
The City Wok, a place once bustling with delicious food, has now been transformed into an exclusive pop-up shop, much to my dismay. Wing, a character who seems to have a heart of gold, scolds Tuong Lu for exploiting Butters and the other children, but her husband counters that they’re forced to do so due to the increasing tariffs that are threatening their business survival. Quite an intriguing twist!
Will We See More Returning Faces in South Park Season 27?
The recurring joke about the “City Pop-Up” capitalizing on the collectible trend, hinting at the famous “Chinpokomon” episode with some of the items resembling those from it, suggests a positive development for the upcoming season, as the show now seems to be drawing on nostalgia rather than solely focusing on contemporary political issues. The inclusion of Wing’s voice adds to this promising outlook.
It appears that South Park Season 27 might be heading towards a significant climax before it concludes. The latest episode shows Satan experiencing a considerable transformation, which could signal something larger in the making. Historically, South Park has explored intricate storylines across its seasons and specials, so this development may connect to an important unveiling (or possibly a return) in the near future.
