The new film project from the creators of South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, has been delayed. Originally slated for release in 2026, the movie—an original, live-action comedy—will no longer meet that date. The project brings Parker and Stone together with hip-hop artist Kendrick Lamar, who is producing alongside David Free through their company pgLang. Parker and Stone are also producing through Park County. The creators released a statement explaining the delay.
“It’s true – we’re moving (again). We’re working hard at finishing the movie.”
The upcoming movie was initially planned to come out last July, but that was changed to March 2026. Now, it’s been removed from Paramount’s schedule with no new release date announced. Although some might expect issues due to the often provocative nature of South Park and its creators, the delay appears to be due to simpler, less dramatic reasons.
As reported by Deadline, the project is delayed because everyone involved has a lot on their plate. Lamar is currently touring, making it difficult for him to contribute, and the project was expected to be in post-production by now. Meanwhile, Parker and Stone are busy creating the current season of South Park, which is still attracting a large audience with its controversial and newsworthy episodes.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the creators of South Park, haven’t made many movies. They started with films like Cannibal! The Musical and Orgazmo, but their last major movie release was Team America: World Police in 2004. While Kendrick Lamar isn’t primarily a filmmaker, he consistently collaborates with talented and like-minded artists. The script for this new project is reportedly written by Vernon Chatman, a long-time producer on South Park and the creator of Wonder Showzen. Last year, Paramount’s Brian Robbins enthusiastically announced the film, stating that…
“One of the funniest and most original scripts we’ve ever read.”
Considering the musical talent of Parker, Stone, and Lamar, the upcoming movie will likely include a lot of original songs. Their previous work – including Team America, South Park, the Broadway hit The Book of Mormon, and Lamar’s 20+ Grammy Awards and Super Bowl performance – all demonstrate their skill in music. However, the film is still some time away from release. While late 2026 is a possibility, the creators want to make sure it’s perfect before announcing a firm date. Once Lamar finishes his tour and the new season of South Park concludes, they’ll be able to fully focus on this live-action comedy, which promises to be both funny and thought-provoking for fans.
