After twenty-eight seasons, South Park is nearing its end, with just two more episodes planned for this year. However, creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker are also working on a new film called Whitney Springs, featuring Kendrick Lamar. Originally intended for release next year, the movie is currently facing some delays.
Deadline reports that the new film from Trey Parker, Matt Stone, and Robert Lamar has been pushed back from its original release date of March 20, 2026. While Whitney Springs doesn’t have a new release date yet, the filmmakers have confirmed the project is still underway, stating they are “working hard at finishing the movie.” The delay is likely due to the creators’ busy schedules – Parker and Stone are currently focused on their Paramount series, and Lamar is balancing his music career with touring and recording.
What is Whitney Springs?

Unlike their animated show South Park, Parker and Stone are creating a live-action musical film called Whitney Springs. The movie centers on a young Black man who works as a historical reenactor and uncovers a surprising secret about his girlfriend’s family history. Although the film isn’t finished yet, the script has been completed for a while. A former Paramount executive described the script as “one of the funniest and most original we’ve ever read,” predicting it will be quite controversial.
The partnership with Kendrick Lamar isn’t new for Trey Parker and Matt Stone, who have a history of creating successful musical projects. Their most well-known work is likely The Book of Mormon, which became a global hit after its 2011 Broadway debut and continues to tour worldwide. They also created a musical version of their popular animated show, South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut, featuring the characters singing original songs.
Good news for fans of South Park: the show’s future is secure despite a new musical project. Earlier this year, Paramount and Park Studios agreed to continue the popular, but often controversial, animated series for several more seasons. Although making each season takes a lot of work and has caused some delays, viewers can expect a new season every year for the near future.
