The animated series South Park is once again in motion, airing Season 27, and recently gave a rather audacious sneak peek behind the scenes of a highly debatable scene from its debut episode. Known for stirring up controversy, the latest episode of South Park has taken it to an unprecedented level. Such was the reaction that it became the most-watched premiere in a while, and continues to dominate discussions on social media. In fact, the series itself has fueled these conversations with additional content.
As an observer, I’ve noticed that South Park hasn’t held back on sharing their social media and promotional content related to the Season 27 premiere, even given the controversy it sparked. Fans have been left speculating about the show’s future since then. In the meantime, while we eagerly await the next episode, South Park’s official X account has offered a sneak peek behind the scenes of their President Donald Trump PSA, revealing the intricate details of how they managed to create such an outrageous scene. Take a look at the exclusive behind-the-scenes images below.

What Happened With South Park?
Although the animated series initially suggested the PSA scene utilized “synthetic media,” it has become clearer that this referred to DeepFake technology being employed instead. Rather than constructing the entire sequence using AI, South Park’s creative team used a real actor with makeup and prosthetics, onto whom they digitally superimposed Trump’s face. This helps explain the unusual quality of the segment, as well as the bizarre appearance of series creator Trey Parker’s finger within it. The attention-grabbing scene generated buzz among both fans and critics following its debut.
Despite the high popularity of South Park Season 27, fans will have to wait a bit longer for the next episode due to a one-week delay. This delay has been more noticeable given the recent controversy, leading some viewers to speculate about the future of the series. However, the show’s success indicates that it is likely to continue thriving in the coming years as Trey Parker and Matt Stone create new episodes. The upcoming episode will air on Wednesday, August 6th.
What’s Next for South Park?
In anticipation of South Park Season 27’s launch, creators Parker and Stone sealed a $1.5 billion deal with Paramount for the series’ continuation. This agreement ensures that ten episodes will be produced annually over a five-year span. Additionally, the show’s entire classic collection will be exclusively streamable on Paramount+, and new episodes will become available on this platform the day following their Comedy Central premiere. Amusingly, during San Diego Comic-Con 2025 last month, Parker and Stone admitted to fans that they were unsure about how they would carry on with the season at that time.
This morning, we were at South Park pondering about what the next week’s episode would entail. At this point, we don’t have an answer, Parker admitted. Even just last weekend, three days ago, we were in doubt as to whether people would appreciate it. In fact, he disclosed that the trailer for the new season released earlier this summer was entirely fabricated, so buckle up for an unpredictable journey through South Park Season 27!
