Kirsten Dunst is open to the idea of doing Spider-Man 4 with Tobey Maguire.
Kirsten Dunst played Mary Jane Watson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man films, including Spider-Man (2002), Spider-Man 2 (2004), and Spider-Man 3 (2007). Although Sony Pictures and Marvel considered making a fourth movie afterward, those plans didn’t work out.
However, many Spider-Man enthusiasts are still hoping to see Sam Raimi direct Spider-Man 4, particularly because Tobey Maguire returned as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). Even though there hasn’t been any official word about the film being made, Mattson Tomlin, the writer of The Batman Part II, recently shared a concept for how a sequel could work.
“To be honest, what I’d really like to explore right now is a Spider-Man 4 film featuring Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man dealing with the challenges of being both a husband and a father,” Tomlin explained. “After the last eight films, I’m really drawn to the idea of Spider-Man as a father.”
What did Kirsten Dunst say about Spider-Man 4?
While on The Supes Show recently, Dunst was asked for her thoughts on Lily Tomlin’s suggestion and whether she’d consider reprising her role as Mary Jane Watson if Spider-Man 4 were to be made. Essentially, she was asked if she’d be interested in returning for a potential fourth film.
“I hadn’t really considered that,” Dunst replied. “But, honestly, when someone asks a question like that, I get hesitant to say anything… Yeah, that does sound fun, doesn’t it? I just don’t know if the audience would be interested. It feels like that could be a really compelling film, right? Me and Tobey revisiting those roles? But maybe with children now?”
Although it’s currently uncertain if another Spider-Man movie featuring Maguire and Dunst will happen, a new MCU film starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker is being made. Currently in production, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled for release on July 31, 2026.
