Mark Ruffalo is praising Jon Bernthal’s Punisher ahead of Hulk’s MCU return in Spider-Man 4.
In the upcoming film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, produced by Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures, Mark Ruffalo will once again embody both Bruce Banner (the Hulk). Joining him on set is Tom Holland, portraying Peter Parker/Spider-Man, and Jon Bernthal who has starred as the Punisher in the MCU.
What did Mark Ruffalo say about Spider-Man 4 and Jon Bernthal?
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ruffalo confirmed he hasn’t read the script for Spider-Man 4 as of now, but expressed great anticipation about teaming up with Bernthal, someone he has yet to encounter.
He mentioned that if the rumors are true about him being involved in the project, once he receives the script, he will confirm its authenticity. Despite this, he expressed his affection for the person in question and shared that they both have Lena Dunham as a mutual friend, who happens to be a big fan of him. Intrigued by the opportunity, he eagerly looks forward to collaborating with this individual as he finds them extremely talented and hilarious. He also noted that no one else plays the character quite like they do. Excited for their potential meeting, he admitted that they have never met each other before.
The specific storyline for Spider-Man 4 is currently a secret. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), the film stars Zendaya as Michelle “MJ” Jones-Watson, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, and Michael Mando reprising his role as Mac Gargan/Scorpion, who last appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017.
Moreover, it’s been announced that Sadie Sink (from Stranger Things), Liza Colón-Zayas (The Bear), and Trammel Tillman (Severance) have each secured unspecified parts in upcoming productions.
Marvel’s “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” hits US cinemas on July 31, 2026, as part of Phase Six in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Subsequently, “Avengers: Doomsday” is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026, and “Avengers: Secret Wars” follows suit on December 17, 2027.
