Here’s what we know so far about the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day from Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures. The film, set to release on July 31, 2026, as part of Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will bring back Tom Holland as Peter Parker, five years after Spider-Man: No Way Home. While Brand New Day will be one of the last movies in the Multiverse Saga, it appears to be focusing on a more personal and intimate story for Spider-Man.
Shortly after the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home in December 2021, Marvel announced that Tom Holland would continue playing Spider-Man in at least three new Marvel Cinematic Universe films. The first of these movies is Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which will introduce a more grown-up, experienced, and secretive version of the friendly neighborhood hero. While it’s not yet confirmed if Holland will appear in Avengers: Doomsday, Brand New Day is expected to lead into the epic finale of the Multiverse Saga, planned for release in 2026 and 2027.
Latest Updates About Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Filming for Spider-Man: Brand New Day began on August 3, 2025, in Glasgow, Scotland, initially under the code name Blue Oasis. Since then, photos from the set have given fans a glimpse of Peter Parker’s updated Spider-Man suit (which Tom Holland contributed to designing), exciting web-swinging action, Frank Castle’s (Jon Bernthal) new armored vehicle as the Punisher, and Sadie Sink’s secret character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There’s a rumor a first trailer might be shown with the release of Avatar: Fire and Ash, but that hasn’t been officially announced.
Originally planned for July 24, 2026, the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day was moved to July 31st. This change created a two-week gap between it and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, giving more space between the two films. Tom Holland stars in both movies, making July 2026 a huge month for him. The film will also feature returning creative team members, including costume designer Sanja Milkovic Hays, production designer Charles Wood, cinematographer Brett Pawlak, and writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. However, Jon Watts, who directed the previous Spider-Man trilogy, will not be involved this time.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day Production History Explained

Following assurances from Kevin Feige that the agreement between Disney and Sony regarding Spider-Man wouldn’t fall apart again—as nearly happened with Spider-Man: No Way Home—it became clear that more Spider-Man movies would be made as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Tom Holland was hesitant at first, but later confirmed he’d been in talks about returning, with those discussions picking up again after the 2023 writers’ and actors’ strikes. Although Jon Watts decided not to direct, Destin Daniel Cretton—known for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and the Wonder Man series—was brought in to direct Spider-Man: Brand New Day, a title officially announced at CinemaCon in March 2025.
I’m so excited about the new Spider-Man movie! After everything that happened in No Way Home – with Doctor Strange erasing everyone’s memory of Peter Parker – it feels like a completely fresh start for the character, and Tom Holland described it that way too. I’ve heard the director is really drawing from classic Marvel comics, especially the ‘Brand New Day’ storyline, and aiming for a look and feel that’s incredibly faithful to the source material. Plus, the Jackie Chan Stunt Team is involved, which means the action is going to be phenomenal! While a lot of the details are still under wraps, I can’t wait to see how the story and characters come to life in this new take.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s Confirmed Cast & Characters

Tom Holland will definitely be back as Peter Parker in the next Spider-Man movie, currently titled Brand New Day. Zendaya, as Michelle Jones, and Jacob Batalon, as Ned Leeds, are also expected to return, even though they weren’t included in the ending of No Way Home. No Way Home essentially started things fresh, so most other familiar faces from previous Spider-Man films likely won’t be back. However, Michael Mando will finally play Mac Gargan’s Scorpion, almost ten years after his brief appearance in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Both Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk and Jon Bernthal as the Punisher will return in the upcoming series, Brand New Day. There’s talk that Ruffalo’s Hulk might revert to his original, more aggressive form, though this isn’t official. Bernthal’s Punisher is coming back after appearing in a standalone special presentation planned for 2026, which doesn’t have a firm release date yet. Joining them will be Marvin Jones III, who previously voiced the character Tombstone in the animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018), and will now play him in live-action in Brand New Day.
The upcoming film Brand New Day will feature both familiar faces from previous Marvel movies and some new actors joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In March 2025, Sadie Sink, known for her role in Stranger Things, was confirmed to be joining the cast, with many fans speculating she will play Jean Grey. Sink has also been a popular choice among fans for roles like Gwen Stacy and Felicia Hardy. Liza Colón-Zayas, from The Bear, was cast in May 2025 as a character who seems to be a detective. Tramell Tillman, known for Severance, joined the cast in August 2025 in a role that hasn’t been revealed, and fans have suggested he could play characters like Robbie Robertson or Norman Osborn, and even Miles Morales’ father.
What Could Spider-Man: Brand New Day Be About?

The 2008 Marvel Comics storyline, Brand New Day, begins after the events of One More Day. In that previous story, Peter Parker made a deal with the devil, Mephisto, to save his Aunt May. However, this came at a great cost: his marriage to Mary Jane Watson was erased, and everyone forgot that Peter Parker was Spider-Man, altering his past. The story starts with Aunt May and Harry Osborn both alive, and Spider-Man having been absent since the Superhuman Registration Act. A key part of this storyline focuses on Peter’s work at the Daily Bugle, something the Marvel Cinematic Universe hasn’t shown yet.
The storyline Brand New Day was once quite divisive in Marvel Comics, but the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day has the opportunity to learn from its past. With everyone having forgotten Peter Parker after No Way Home, we’re likely to see a Spider-Man who is older, more experienced, and more self-reliant. This shift towards more adult themes is signaled by the introduction of the Punisher, who is expected to become a partner to Spider-Man. While some believe Spider-Man and the Punisher will join forces to stop a destructive Hulk, others predict they’ll face off against villains like Mister Negative and the Inner Demons.
Even though Spider-Man: Brand New Day is part of the final storyline of the Multiverse Saga, it’s expected to focus on a more personal and realistic story for Peter Parker. Some fans believe the events of Brand New Day will happen at the same time as Avengers: Doomsday, much like Ant-Man and the Wasp took place alongside Avengers: Infinity War. This could explain why Tom Holland isn’t appearing in the next Avengers movie. Either way, Spider-Man: Brand New Day promises to be an exciting addition to Spider-Man’s story in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
