The fourth Spider-Man film featuring Tom Holland’s character, titled “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” is now being built up for production. It’s been confirmed that filming will start on July 31 in Glasgow, Scotland, as reported by local news outlet STV News. This announcement also indicates street closures from July 31 to August 15. Interestingly, Glasgow’s Bothwell Street will stand in for Lexington Avenue in Spider-Man’s hometown New York City, where a structure is being constructed to serve as a significant set piece. Additionally, images from the filming location seem to hint at the position of “Brand New Day” within the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline.
Due to photos posted online, the construction site’s props hint at the building being finished by December 2027. This implies that the events of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” occur before those of “Avengers: Doomsday,” which could be set in either 2028 or 2029.
The main action of Thunderbolts takes place in fall 2027, however, a 14-month time leap moves the post-credit scene and Doomsday to no later than early 2029. This post-credit scene depicted the Fantastic Four traveling from Earth 828 to Earth 616, which is also known as the Sacred Timeline, and it was actually filmed for Doomsday. It’s uncertain how much time has elapsed between Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021 and Spider-Man: Brand New Day in 2026, but the latter occurred in late 2024.
Initially, Sony Pictures scheduled the release of what was then called “Spider-Man 4” on July 24, 2026, approximately six weeks following the premier of “Avengers: Doomsday,” which is produced by Disney and Marvel Studios on May 1, 2026. This timing hinted that “Brand New Day” might follow “Doomsday,” much like how “Spider-Man: Far From Home” was set in the aftermath of “Avengers: Endgame.” In fact, both films were released with a gap in 2019, and “Far From Home” depicted Tom Holland’s Peter Parker adapting to a post-Blip world and dealing with the demise of Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark/Iron Man.
Initially, Disney postponed “Avengers: Doomsday” to December 18, 2026, and shifted “Brand New Day” to July 31, 2026 instead. Later on, “Avengers: Secret Wars” is expected to reboot the Marvel Cinematic Universe when the final chapter of the Multiverse Saga premieres in theaters a year after, on December 17, 2027.
As a follower, I can share that Holland and Kevin Feige hinted at something intriguing regarding Spider-Man: Brand New Day following No Way Home, which delved into the multiverse. Unlike the epic, cosmic tales of Avengers: Doomsday and the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars, this new story promises to be more grounded and street-level in its focus.
In a recent interview, Holland expressed that due to COVID-19 restrictions, the production of Spider-Man: No Way Home was limited to shooting on stages. Now, for an authentic feel, they plan to embrace traditional filmmaking techniques by filming in real locations, which is why they’re starting the production in Glasgow.
The actor went on to say, ‘Making this new project will be like doing Spider-Man: Homecoming all over again.’ It’s been so long since I last worked on something similar that it’ll feel incredibly refreshing. I believe the fans are going to be thrilled with what we have in store for them.’
Feige hinted that Jon Bernthal’s character, The Punisher, will transition from TV to the cinema in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He implied that the storyline would likely be more intimate, although there’s speculation about whether Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk might be part of it.
Although it’s unfortunate that Peter is overlooked in his personal life, we’re witnessing a new side of him in the Tom Holland Spider-Man tales – a true Spider-Man. Feige explained during a press event for Fantastic Four: First Steps, he’s now alone, focusing on protecting the city and handling everyday crimes, rather than global catastrophes he faced when teaming up with other characters.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now in production and swings into theaters July 31, 2026.
