The official trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day is here, giving fans a taste of the story and bringing back some well-known characters. It appears the movie might reverse the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which would be disappointing to many. Following a preview of 23 scenes, the trailer confirms Peter Parker will still be connected to his friends, Ned and MJ.
Following the events of No Way Home, where everyone, including Ned and MJ, had their memories of Peter Parker erased, the film ended with Peter choosing to keep his identity a secret to protect them from the dangers of his life as Spider-Man. While that ending was sad, the trailer for Brand New Day suggests Peter might be reconsidering his decision.
MJ And Ned Are All Over The Brand New Day Trailer

Ned and MJ show up several times in the trailer for Brand New Day. The trailer actually opens with Peter watching a video of them, hinting that he’s still upset about the events of No Way Home and misses his friends, even after some time has passed. However, the trailer also suggests that Peter is becoming more present in Ned and MJ’s lives, unlike the ending of No Way Home where they were separated.
The trailer features Peter at a party with MJ and Ned, where he sees MJ getting close to another man (played by Eman Esfandi, known for his role in Ahsoka). The scene then cuts to Peter telling MJ and Ned he’s their neighbor, prompting MJ to jokingly call him their “friendly neighbor.” It seems the feeling is reciprocated, as MJ and Ned are shown watching Spider-Man on TV and have collected photos and news articles about him on their wall.
What’s especially intriguing is that even though Ned and MJ don’t remember Peter, they’re clearly fascinated by Spider-Man and seem determined to figure out his true identity. The trailer also shows the letter Peter wrote to MJ explaining everything, a letter he admits he might never send, but it’s a powerful, unresolved element. All of this suggests that Peter, MJ, and Ned are likely to reconnect, potentially undoing the ending of No Way Home and Peter’s choice to distance himself from his friends so they could have normal lives.
No Way Home’s Ending Was Painful But Meaningful

The ending of No Way Home was undeniably difficult to watch. Zendaya and Tom Holland acknowledged this in an interview back in 2021, with Zendaya especially expressing sadness about how the film concluded. However, it’s possible for something to be both upsetting and meaningful, and that seems to be the case here. While No Way Home delivered a painful ending for fans, it also offered a powerful message.
After everything Peter had experienced in both the Spider-Man and Avengers films, he understood that Ned and MJ were constantly in danger simply by knowing his secret. He realized that even if they didn’t know he was Spider-Man, they’d still be at risk, as previous Spider-Man movies have repeatedly shown.
He was dealing with huge, universe-threatening problems when he chose to erase everyone’s memories. But ultimately, his decision to leave Ned and MJ was because he realized it wasn’t right to ask them to live with that burden, especially as they were about to start college and new lives. While some fans didn’t love it, it was a strong and meaningful choice.
Audiences (And Peter Parker) Deserve Better Than This Being Undone

Despite the sad events at the end of No Way Home, many fans didn’t believe the memory loss would last. It seemed unlikely that Peter Parker’s involvement with the Avengers, particularly his fight against Thanos, would be completely forgotten. However, it would be frustrating if the ending of No Way Home was reversed so quickly, especially in the very next Spider-Man film.
The powerful choice Peter made at the end of No Way Home shouldn’t be undermined, and fans deserve a more thoughtful continuation of his story. Immediately restoring his relationships with Ned and MJ would diminish the impact of that difficult decision. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe doesn’t need to isolate Peter Parker permanently, it also shouldn’t undo the ending of No Way Home in the upcoming Brand New Day movie.
