Spider-Man’s 10 Greatest Allies in Marvel Comics

Spider-Man began his journey as a teenage superhero in Marvel Comics and has built many important relationships over time. Recently, in the comics, J. Jonah Jameson and Norman Osborn actually agreed that Spider-Man is second only to Captain America as a hero, praising his strong moral compass and willingness to always do what’s right, even when it’s difficult. This reputation attracts allies from all sorts of characters – even some surprising ones – who recognize Spider-Man as one of the greatest heroes around.

Here’s a list of the 10 best allies Spider-Man has in Marvel Comics, from former foes who became friends to his most trusted companions.

10) Boomerang

Fred Myers, surprisingly, became one of Spider-Man’s allies. He’s better known as the villain Boomerang, and this unexpected partnership happened when he started living with Peter Parker and Randy Robertson, all while keeping his true identity a secret from them. Once they discovered who he really was, Boomerang turned toward heroism and began helping Spider-Man, despite still keeping some things hidden. He even risked his life as a double agent during the Sinister Wars to protect Spider-Man, but tragically died trying to save him from Morlun. Though he has since been resurrected, Boomerang remains a complex character with a unique connection to Spider-Man.

9) Ben Reilly

Ben Reilly is a complex character with a troubled history tied to Spider-Man. Created as a clone of Peter Parker by the villain known as The Jackal, he once believed he was the original Peter and even took on the role of Spider-Man. Though he’s occasionally been portrayed as a villain, these instances weren’t truly his fault. Despite Spider-Man’s general distrust of clones, Ben has consistently tried to be a hero. Currently, he’s even pretending to be Peter Parker while Spider-Man is away on a mission.

8) The Human Torch

Spider-Man and the Human Torch have been friends since the very beginning of Spider-Man’s career. Shortly after gaining his powers, Peter Parker applied for a job with the Fantastic Four hoping for a paycheck. This led to a friendship with Johnny Storm, the Human Torch, as they both were young, relatable teenagers, a rarity among the heroes of that time. They’re a famously playful duo – who could forget the time Spider-Man was stuck in the Bombastic Bag-Man costume, and Johnny Storm playfully added a ‘Kick Me’ sign to the back?

7) J. Jonah Jameson

For years, J. Jonah Jameson was a constant thorn in Spider-Man’s side. As the publisher of a newspaper, he regularly printed misleading stories about Spider-Man, trying to damage his public image. Interestingly, Jameson also had a close relationship with Peter Parker, almost like a father figure. When Spider-Man revealed his secret identity to Jameson, their dynamic shifted dramatically. Jonah became one of Spider-Man’s strongest supporters and allies, doing everything he could to help the hero he once opposed. In a recent comic, he even stated that Spider-Man is the second greatest hero ever, ranking just below Captain America.

6) Norman Osborn

It’s surprising to see J. Jonah Jameson helping Spider-Man, given their past, but even stranger to see Norman Osborn as one of his closest allies. This change happened when Norman was freed from his past mistakes by the Sin-Eater, leading him to try and make amends for his actions. Currently, in the Spider-Man comics, Norman is even wearing the Spider-Man suit and fighting crime as the Wall-Crawler, attempting to protect the hero’s image, though other heroes aren’t thrilled. Despite the mixed reactions, Norman genuinely believes he’s acting in Spider-Man’s best interest and holds a deep respect for Peter Parker.

5) Black Cat

Okay, look, as a huge Spider-Man fan, I’ve always thought about who Peter’s best match is, and honestly, I’m starting to think it’s Black Cat, maybe even more than MJ. MJ’s feelings about Peter being Spider-Man have always been rocky, and frankly, the way her character’s been written since One More Day has kinda messed up their whole dynamic. But Felicia Hardy? She gets Spidey. She genuinely believes in him as Spider-Man, and he inspires her to be a better person, a better hero. He brings out the best in her, and she’s proven time and again she’d throw herself in front of a train for him, no questions asked. That kind of dedication feels really special.

4) Wolverine

Spider-Man and Wolverine are arguably the most unlikely duo in Marvel Comics. They first teamed up when Spider-Man was going through a difficult time, having lost a friend and unintentionally causing a death during a fight – though it wasn’t his fault. Since then, they’ve worked together on many adventures, including one particularly memorable trip through time. They journeyed to the distant future to battle an incredibly powerful Doctor Doom, and to the Old West, where they spent a significant amount of time together. While Wolverine is known for his aggression and Spider-Man strives to save everyone, their contrasting personalities somehow make them a remarkably effective team.

3) Miles Morales

Miles Morales is Spider-Man in a different version of the Marvel universe. While there was originally another Spider-Man, Peter Parker, he passed away, and Miles stepped up to protect the city. After a major event, the world was rebuilt, and Miles was brought into the main Marvel universe with his family, as a thank you for a past good deed. Since then, he’s become close friends with Peter Parker, who acts as a mentor and ally. They support each other and work incredibly well as a team, making them a powerful duo when fighting crime.

2) Mary Jane Watson

Over the last ten years, Mary Jane Watson’s character has suffered in the eyes of many fans, largely due to the storyline in One More Day. Currently, she’s the host for Venom and recently dated a character that Marvel fans strongly disliked. It often feels like Marvel is actively trying to discourage the popular pairing of Spider-Man and MJ, and keep them separated. This is disappointing, as while Spider-Man and Black Cat have a strong connection, many consider Spider-Man and Mary Jane to be the ultimate couple in Marvel Comics history – a pairing Marvel doesn’t seem interested in revisiting.

1) Aunt May

Aunt May is the most important person in Spider-Man’s life. She helped raise him alongside Uncle Ben, and after Ben’s death, she remained his constant support, even though Peter kept his identity as Spider-Man a secret to protect her. He deeply loves and values her, demonstrated by his willingness to make a desperate deal with Mephisto to save her life in One More Day. No one means more to Peter Parker, making Aunt May a truly central and irreplaceable figure in Spider-Man’s story.
