Spider-Man is undoubtedly Marvel’s most popular character. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe has made heroes like Captain America and Iron Man incredibly well-known, Spider-Man remains their biggest star. He’s been a leading figure for Marvel almost from the beginning, which is why he appears in more comics than any other hero. It’s natural, then, that Marvel often chooses Spider-Man to lead stories that connect to alternate universes, and many of these crossovers have been truly amazing.
Let’s celebrate Spider-Man’s ability to connect with heroes from any universe by exploring five of the most memorable crossover comics he’s been a part of. Spider-Man has teamed up with many popular characters over the years, but these five stand out as particularly special. Given how great Spider-Man’s adventures always are – and with a new team-up with Superman coming soon – there are sure to be even more amazing crossovers in the future. So, let’s dive into these fantastic team-ups!
5) Godzilla vs. Spider-Man

This comic features an epic showdown as Godzilla arrives in New York and targets Spider-Man’s symbiote suit. While the story isn’t the strongest – even for a classic ‘Godzilla fights!’ tale – it’s packed with pure, unadulterated fun. You’ll witness the Venom symbiote bonding with Godzilla, the radioactive lizard breaking free from Knull’s control, and the birth of the incredible Godvenom. It’s a thrilling, over-the-top adventure that will bring out the kid in anyone, and honestly, that’s all you need from a story like this – pure adrenaline and awesome action!
4) New Avengers/Transformers

While this story brings together the New Avengers, Spider-Man is central to the plot. When the Decepticons land on Earth and initially team up with Doctor Doom, they quickly switch sides after discovering Spider-Man’s unique blood gives them even more power than their usual energy source. The Autobots and New Avengers then join forces to save Spider-Man, and ultimately, Spider-Man and Wolverine provide the Autobots with more of their blood to defeat a super-powered Megatron. It’s a fantastic team-up, and the image of Spider-Man swinging around on Megatron is a highlight worth seeing.
3) Spider-Man and Batman — “Disordered Minds”

Batman and Spider-Man are incredibly popular heroes, and their enemies are notoriously frightening. When the Joker and Carnage joined forces, they pushed both heroes to their limits. This team-up was particularly challenging for Spider-Man, but Batman remained true to his values. Despite some disagreements, Batman and Spider-Man eventually earned each other’s respect and ended their adventure as friends. A highlight of the crossover was Batman cleverly outsmarting Carnage, leaving him unconscious – it was a satisfying moment for fans!
2) Marvel Team-Up (2004) #14 — “Spider-Man Meets Invincible”

Before the animated series became popular, the Invincible comic made a big impact. Early in the story, during a battle with Angstrom Levy, Invincible briefly ended up on Earth-616 – the same universe as Spider-Man! They teamed up to fight Doc Ock, but the most memorable part wasn’t the action. It was the connection between the two heroes. Invincible was new to the superhero life and overwhelmed with responsibility, something Spider-Man completely understood. They had a heartfelt conversation about the burdens of being a hero, and it beautifully highlighted what made both characters so relatable.
1) Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man: The Battle of the Century

Superman and Spider-Man are iconic superheroes whose team-up fifty years ago paved the way for all the Marvel-DC crossovers we’ve seen since. Initially tricked into fighting, they quickly realized they needed to join forces to defeat their powerful enemies, Lex Luthor and Doctor Octopus. Their adventure exceeded all expectations and remains a standout crossover event. Any future team-up will have a high bar to clear, but with these two heroes, it’s bound to be exciting.
