Ubisoft has exciting new installments planned for fans of Assassin’s Creed, including Codename Hexe and a remake of Black Flag. However, some highly anticipated games, like the Splinter Cell Remake and a new Far Cry, have been delayed, and fans will have to wait longer to play them.
During the recent Insider Gaming Podcast, Tom Henderson and Mike Straw discussed a game previously expected to release this year, but now slated for 2027. This title was one of seven projects delayed following a company restructuring, and was originally announced in 2021. Since then, the game’s director, David Grivel, briefly worked on Battlefield 6 before returning to lead development at Ubisoft Toronto, a studio that has also experienced layoffs.
According to insider Jeff Henderson, the next Far Cry game is facing significant development challenges. Although Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot mentioned in February that there were two promising projects in the works for the series, rumors about difficulties with both have been circulating for some time.
Rumors suggest the next Far Cry game, currently known as Blackbird, will center around a main character trying to save their family, but with only 24 hours to do so. Ubisoft is also reportedly working on Maverick, a separate shooter spin-off set in Alaska where players focus on extracting resources or people.
Although specifics are still upcoming, both projects are said to feature updated item systems, rewards, and ways to move around, including a new tactical sprinting feature. How development goes will likely decide if we get more news soon, but even if things go well, it’s unlikely these projects will be released before 2027.
