Despite recent layoffs at Ubisoft Toronto, reports suggest the highly anticipated Splinter Cell remake for PlayStation 5 is still in development.
The publisher recently reduced the Canadian studio’s staff by about 8%, impacting around 40 employees. However, development on the new Sam Fisher game will continue as planned, and the studio will still assist other teams with their projects.
In a statement to MobileSyrup, a spokesperson said:
This was a difficult decision, and it’s absolutely not a reflection on the skills or hard work of those who are impacted. Right now, our focus is on helping them through this change with generous severance benefits and strong support in finding new jobs.
This news follows a difficult week for the gaming world, marked by the complete closure of Bluepoint, a studio beloved by PlayStation fans.
The remake of Splinter Cell was first announced in 2021, and David Grivel has recently been put in charge of the project again. This is somewhat surprising, as he previously worked on the remake until 2022 before leaving to pursue other opportunities. Now, he’s returned as director.
It seems you’re wondering about the lack of news on this project, especially since Ubisoft recently cancelled the highly awaited Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake.
Fans are eager to see Sam Fisher, known for his signature night-vision goggles, appear in a game on the PlayStation 5.
