Josef Fares, from Hazelight Studios, has shared that the team is already immersed in creating their next game following the triumph of “Split Fiction“. In a recent conversation on the Friends Per Second podcast, Fares mentioned his complete dedication to this upcoming project.
In the podcast, Fares discussed his practice of immediately transitioning to fresh projects following the launch of a game. He admitted that it feels particularly significant in this case due to the overwhelmingly positive critical and financial success of “Split Fiction”.
Every time a new game comes out, I move on quickly and am eagerly anticipating the next project,” said Fares. “This particular game, however, has been exceptionally well-received, which makes everyone involved very happy. Yet, my excitement is focused entirely on the current project we’ve already started, so I can’t help but express my enthusiasm.
Fares also spoke about the positive reception for Split Fiction. For context, Split Fiction was the first game by Hazelight Studios to have scored more than 90 on Metacritic throughout the studio’s 13 years of developing games. Hazelight celebrated Split Fiction‘s positive reception with an accolades trailer.
“I think it ended up somewhere around 88,” says Fares referring to the Metacritic rating for Hazelight’s previous title, It Takes Two. “They had in the team some kind of guessing, where they guess the Metacritic score. And they had a couple of people who nailed it actually at 91. That was great.”
Further in the podcast, Fares spoke about how the team at Hazelight is excited to do even better for its next game. He spoke about how the studio isn’t worried about not being able to surpass its work with Split Fiction in its next project.
Fares mentioned that we’ve been discussing it a lot and there’s an overwhelming sense in our team that people really appreciate this. But
We’re extremely assured about our actions. The atmosphere is incredibly positive, and everyone is brimming with enthusiasm.
In just two days, the release of “Split Fiction” saw a staggering one million copies sold. This number climbed even higher in its first week, reaching an impressive 2 million. The game has garnered widespread acclaim from both critics and players, with its Steam version boasting an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating.
Split Fiction is a co-op game that puts players in the shoes of two girls – Mio and Zoe. Both players must work together to try and escape from a simulation that they are both trapped in. Split Fiction was released on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S earlier this month. Check out our review for more details.
