Despite hoping to revive interest with the recent relaunch of Splitgate as Splitgate: Arena Reloaded, 1047 Games hasn’t seen the results they likely wanted. As of today, the game has around 556 players online at any given time, with a high of 1070 players in the last 24 hours, according to SteamDB.
The studio responded to recent criticism with a social media post, pointing out that Steam Charts numbers don’t reflect how enjoyable a game is. 1047 Games explained they’ve been completely rebuilding Splitgate over the past six months and are using community feedback to improve the game, including new content like Arena Royale.
The studio explained that Steam Charts only reflect a single data point – how many people are playing on Steam at a specific time. They don’t give a complete view of the game, the player experience, or the thriving community that’s actively contributing to the development of Arena Reloaded, including future content like Arena Royale.
Look, as a player, I’ve been following Splitgate for a while, and I’m really excited to see the dedication the team has shown. They basically rebuilt the whole game from scratch over the last six months because they truly believe in it – and in us, the players! The whole 1047 team is still pushing hard to make Splitgate the best it can be, and that’s awesome to see.
The team behind Splitgate: Arena Reloaded expressed gratitude to their players for their feedback and support. They also invited anyone who hasn’t played the game yet to give it a try.
We want to thank our incredible community! Your feedback and enthusiasm have made Arena Reloaded better with each passing day. If you haven’t tried it yet, Arena Reloaded is free to play, and we’ve made the gameplay better than ever. We’d love for you to give it a try and see what you think – a dedicated team poured a lot of hard work into it.
Just last month, Splitgate: Arena Reloaded was released, but it didn’t attract as many players as the original Splitgate – it peaked at less than 10 percent of the original game’s highest concurrent player count. This relaunch happened after Splitgate 2 received negative feedback, prompting developer 1047 Games to announce a complete overhaul and a return to a beta testing phase for the remainder of the year.
Ian Proulx, CEO of 1047 Games, admitted that the launch of Splitgate 2 didn’t go as planned and that the game still felt unfinished, like a beta version. He was responding to player feedback.
He admitted the game didn’t feel fully finished, despite being released as such. It felt more like an unfinished beta version, still containing bugs and lacking key features expected in a completed product. He stated there were too many issues, and they were essentially starting over to fix them.
The developers of Splitgate 2 intended to recapture the fast-paced, arena-style gameplay that made the first Splitgate so popular. They were also planning to improve core features based on player feedback, such as adding leaderboards, a better progression system, and more surfaces that players could use to create portals.
Splitgate: Arena Reloaded is available for free on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
