Even with many exciting new games released in September, the top-selling games on the PS Store were sports titles: NBA 2K26 was the most popular in North America, while EA Sports FC 26 led the charts in Europe.
This outcome probably isn’t a shock; there’s a very good reason why these sports simulations are released every 12 months.
Even so, the fact that they’re prioritizing titles over highly anticipated games like Hollow Knight: Silksong and Borderlands 4-games many have been waiting for years-really shows just how large the gaming market is, extending far beyond the most dedicated players.
Regarding other recent releases, Dying Light: The Beast performed quite well in both areas, despite the fact that excitement seems to have waned a bit around Techland’s follow-up title. It feels like the hype’s been a little dry surrounding Techland’s sort-of-sequel.
Silent Hill F also landed within the top 10 on both charts, though many predicted a slightly better ranking. It launched late in the month-on the 25th-but most games sell the most copies when they first come out, so this result is worth considering.
With that being said, it’s undeniable that September was a particularly hectic month, and many customers likely had to choose between making one purchase or another due to the high demand.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds likely shares a similar fate. SEGA’s racing game barely made it onto the charts in the US and Canada, and it didn’t even appear in Europe’s top 20 best-sellers.
Something similar occurred with Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, though it was released on the 30th, so you can likely be a little more forgiving about it.
