Please be aware that this article contains spoilers from the Spy x Family manga. The anime’s third season recently began, and is currently showing the popular Bus Hijacking Arc, where Anya Forger will once again be a hero. Meanwhile, the manga storyline is also at a key turning point, particularly after the Term Break Arc. We’re finally learning more about Donovan Desmond, who is considered the main villain. He’s the main target of Operation Strix and the entire reason Loid created a fake family. Despite Loid’s best efforts, he’s only managed to meet Desmond once, and that meeting didn’t provide any useful information for the mission.
The manga recently revealed that Donovan’s isolation stems from his telepathic abilities, a surprise twist that links him to Anya in an unexpected way. This information came out in January, but we still don’t know the full story. The manga also hasn’t explained why Donovan’s wife, Melinda, thinks he’s an alien. After releasing part of Chapter 123 last week in September, the manga is currently on break, and the story is shifting focus. It will likely be several months before we learn more about Donovan’s history.
Spy x Family Keeps Delaying the Major Villain Reveal

The latest chapter of the manga delivered a huge surprise, but quickly shifted focus to Anya’s school life and Yor’s assignment. After a long wait, the story returned to the main villain in August, starting with chapter 121. Loid discovered a potential clue through Melinda’s notes, which revealed that Professor Sigmund Authen secretly visited Donovan around the time Donovan stepped down as Prime Minister, and they intentionally kept Melinda from finding out what they discussed.
Donovan poses the greatest danger to the delicate peace between Westalis and Ostania, and it’s becoming clear he’s been keeping secrets. His dramatic shift in personality years ago, combined with his psychic abilities and ties to Sigmund, suggests a hidden plan that Loid hasn’t discovered yet.
The newest chapter of the manga focuses on a plot to expel Henry Henderson from Eden Academy. Someone is falsely accusing the professor of wrongdoing, but Anya has already figured out who’s responsible. Because the manga comes out every two weeks, it could take months for this situation with Henderson to be resolved, which might delay any further development of Donovan’s story.
