Spy x Family Season 3 has arrived after almost two years! This season will have 13 episodes, continuing the story of the Forger family – Loid, Anya, and Yor – as they try to keep their secrets hidden from each other while working to maintain peace. The series started with Loid Forger, a mysterious spy who created this family as part of a mission to prevent war between two countries. However, even though he’s the main character, we don’t actually know much about Loid’s past.
For the first two seasons, totaling 37 episodes, the anime didn’t reveal anything about Loid’s background. However, Season 3 will change that. A recent teaser confirms that, beginning with Episode 2 of this season, the series will finally explore Loid’s past. The teaser hints at a sad and difficult history, and also explains how Loid became the mysterious spy known as “Twilight.” It looks like Loid’s backstory will be revealed gradually, becoming the anime’s next big story arc.
Spy x Family Season 3 Is Finally Going To Explore Twilight’s Past
The latest preview for the anime’s upcoming big event asks the key question: “What turned the boy into Twilight?” To emphasize this, the preview shows a young Loid playing make-believe war and questioning a man – potentially his father – about whether wars are real. The mood quickly becomes somber as Loid sees his hometown destroyed, which the preview later identifies as Luwen. In another moment, he’s shown holding onto his mother, crying and wanting to go home. Many scenes highlight how Loid’s previously peaceful childhood was broken, making him a war refugee and starting the path that would change him. It’s now evident that Loid’s path to becoming the mysterious spy began with this deeply upsetting experience.
I’m still left wondering exactly *how* Loid ended up becoming a spy. The new teaser doesn’t explain that, which tells me the series is going to deeply explore his difficult past and how he slowly became Twilight – and it looks like that story will unfold over several episodes. Considering what we’ve seen – that young Loid actually *liked* pretending during wartime – it’s possible he initially joined the Westalian army. That could have been the first step on his path to becoming a spy. The timing of this teaser’s release, right after the first episode of Spy x Family Season 3 aired, really highlights how important this moment is. It seems we’re finally going to learn Loid’s backstory, and fans might be in for the most heartbreaking story arc of the series yet.
