Spyro: A Realm Beyond is Designed Around Spyro Being “Much More Capable in Flight”, Says Studio Head

Toys for Bob announced they’re developing a new Spyro game called Spyro: A Realm Beyond. In a recent interview with XBOX Wire, studio head Paul Yan shared details about the upcoming 3D platformer, including a major change: Spyro can now fly for unlimited amounts of time. This new ability also inspired Spyro’s updated design, which includes larger wings.

Yan explained that they’ve updated Spyro’s appearance with small details to show he’s matured, primarily by making his wings larger to improve his flying ability. However, they’ve made sure it’s still the same Spyro fans remember and love, which is why they brought back Tom Kenny to voice him. Kenny’s performance perfectly captures Spyro’s brave and energetic spirit.

Yan explained that Spyro’s flight in Spyro: A Realm Beyond will be much improved. Unlike older games where he could only glide or fly briefly, this time Spyro can truly fly and control the air.

According to Yan, the new game, Spyro: A Realm Beyond, will let players truly experience the freedom of flying as Spyro the dragon. Because Spyro is small but powerful, the developers spent a lot of time figuring out how to make his flight feel both agile and impactful as he flies through the air.

Later in the interview, Yan explained that Spyro: A Realm Beyond is built around giving players more choices and freedom than previous Spyro games. He highlighted the addition of true flight as a key feature, saying the entire game was designed with it in mind.

The trailer for Spyro: A Realm Beyond was released this weekend, showcasing the unusual and magical world where Spyro finds himself lost. During his adventure, he’ll face a new enemy called the Scavs and will need to team up with new allies to overcome them. According to the developers, the game will introduce a brand-new villain designed to challenge Spyro emotionally and help him develop as a hero.

I’m super excited for Spyro: A Realm Beyond! I heard it’s coming to basically everything – PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and even the new Nintendo Switch 2. They’re aiming to release it in 2027, so it’s still a bit of a wait, but I can’t wait to get my hands on it!
