Square Enix director promises Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s Rebirth and Part 3 releases will come to Xbox — “Let’s enjoy the world of FFVII together”

Last week, Xbox players finally got to experience Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, a popular role-playing game from Square Enix. Previously, this enhanced version of the 2020 remake was only available on PlayStation consoles and PC.

The game is now available on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC via the Xbox app, and Nintendo Switch 2. Plus, it supports Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox Cloud Gaming, letting you continue your game on your console, PC, or Xbox Ally handheld, or anywhere you stream it – all with the same Microsoft account.

The popular Final Fantasy series continues to expand on Xbox. Following releases like Final Fantasy 14, the Pixel Remaster Collection, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Final Fantasy 16, more games are on the way. Naoki Hamaguchi, director of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, has confirmed that the remaining two parts of the remake will also be available on the platform.

We’re thrilled Xbox players are loving FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE! We plan to release REBIRTH and the final game in the trilogy as well, and we hope everyone enjoys experiencing the world of FFVII. We also want to thank Phil Spencer and Sarah Bond at Xbox for their continued support of the FINAL FANTASY series.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the second game in a three-part remake series, came out on PlayStation 5 in 2024 and on PC via Steam in 2025. There’s talk it might also be released on Xbox later this year. The final installment is anticipated in 2027, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the original 1997 game, and fans are hoping it will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC all at the same time.

We’re thrilled to see Xbox players loving FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE! We’re excited to bring REBIRTH and the final chapter of the trilogy to you as well. Let’s all enjoy the world of FFVII together. A big thank you to Phil Spencer and Sarah Bond at Xbox for their continued support.

This news arrives shortly after Final Fantasy 7 Remake ranked among the top 10 best-selling games on Xbox, demonstrating a significant demand for the JRPG and confirming a dedicated Final Fantasy fanbase on Microsoft’s platform.

Final Fantasy has a strong chance of becoming very popular on Xbox, and Square Enix wants to make the most of that opportunity. Recent financial reports from 2024 show that both Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Final Fantasy 16 didn’t perform as well as hoped when they were only available on PlayStation 5, and that’s a key reason why they’re now being released on Xbox.

Square Enix later stated that Final Fantasy games shouldn’t be limited to just one platform. This likely foreshadowed the releases of Final Fantasy 16 and the Final Fantasy 7 Remake on multiple platforms, and suggests that more versions are planned for Xbox in the future.

With the gaming industry increasingly releasing games on multiple platforms, it’s not a big shock that the rest of Final Fantasy 7 Remake is coming to Xbox. However, it’s great news for fans who play on Microsoft consoles, and should also help Square Enix sell more copies.

Our executive editor, Jez Corden, has been testing the game on Xbox and believes it’s the best version available. He praises its smooth performance and full compatibility with Xbox Play Anywhere and Cloud Gaming.
