Square Enix Reveals Final Fantasy XIV Patch 7.5 Features

Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy XIV’s Patch 7.5, titled “Trail to the Heavens,” will arrive on April 28, 2026. The update will include new story missions, a new dungeon and challenging boss fight, the conclusion of the Vana’diel raid series, improvements to player-versus-player combat, changes to housing, and other additions planned for future updates in the 7.5 series.

The story will be released in two parts. The first part is coming with Update 7.5, and the second will follow in Update 7.56. According to Square Enix, the Warrior of Light will return to continue their investigation, but a strange message from a friend will lead them down a new path.

Currently confirmed, the update will launch on April 28th and include major features like those in version 7.5. However, not all content will be available immediately. The official website clarifies that updates and patches will add more features over time, including things like the Beastmaster class, the new Ultimate raid, and other 7.5x content.

If you’re wondering whether Final Fantasy XIV will work on your device with the upcoming patch, it’s helpful to check if FFXIV is cross-platform. Square Enix’s official page for Patch 7.5 still lists support for PlayStation, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Mac, and Steam, so it appears the game will continue to be available on all of those platforms.

Trail to the Heavens Begins the Next Stage of the Story

Update 7.5 begins the first part of a new main story arc called “Trail to the Heavens.” Square Enix says this installment will directly address the ongoing mysteries and will also focus more on the personal journey of the player character.

So, patch 7.5 isn’t just one big thing – it’s got a whole bunch of cool stuff packed in! They’re including the end of the Dawntrail Allied Society questline, even more hilarious Hildibrand adventures, and new deliveries for Aunt Tii’s Tacos. I checked the official patch notes, and it looks like all of this is coming with 7.5, not as separate announcements later on. Pretty sweet!

The Patch Adds a New Dungeon, Trial, Alliance Raid, and Unreal

As a huge fan, I’m so excited about Patch 7.5! We’re getting a brand new dungeon called The Clyteum – it’s apparently an old Garlean factory that’s become a major battleground. Plus, there’s a new trial called The Unmaking, where we’ll be fighting a powerful boss named Enuo. And if that wasn’t enough, they’re also adding Shinryu’s Domain (Unreal) as the next Unreal encounter, which I’ve been waiting for!

The Final Fantasy XI crossover raid series ends with Echoes of Vana’diel – Windurst: The Third Walk. Square Enix describes this as the peak of the story involving Sareel Ja, and it’s a major highlight of the new content coming in Patch 7.5 for players who enjoy player-versus-environment challenges.

A challenging new Ultimate raid is planned for the 7.5 update cycle. While Square Enix has officially announced it, the details are still vague. The special website doesn’t specify the raid’s name or when it will be released within the 7.5 series of patches, so it’s best not to speculate on the exact patch number until Square Enix provides a clearer announcement.

Beastmaster Is Confirmed, but It Is Not Day-One Patch 7.5 Content

The biggest new feature coming in update 7.5 is the Beastmaster, a new limited job confirmed by Square Enix. While listed as part of the initial 7.5 release, some content will be added in later updates. Because of this, it’s more accurate to think of Beastmaster as a 7.5x addition, meaning it won’t be available immediately on April 28th.

Square Enix recently announced the Beastmaster, a new job in Final Fantasy XIV that focuses on taming and battling with creatures. Players weaken and capture beasts, recording them in a special collection called the Master’s Bestiary, and then summon them to fight alongside them. At launch, the game will feature 50 different beast types, and a unique solo gameplay experience called the Crucible of the Unbroken.

Patch 7.5 will bring a significant change for limited jobs. After the update, these jobs will only be able to accept quests specifically for limited jobs, or quests open to everyone. Additionally, limited jobs won’t be able to finish certain quests for allied societies that require you to stay with the same job throughout the entire questline.

Occult Crescent Continues and Phantom Weapons Move Forward

Update 7.5 for Final Fantasy XIV expands the Occult Crescent area with the North Horn, bringing new monsters, quests, challenging battles, a higher level cap, and more content for phantom jobs. Square Enix has clarified that this update will be released in stages, rather than all at once.

Phantom Weapons are still being developed and will eventually reach their full potential. Looking at FFXIV Patch 6.55 can help us understand how these weapons typically progress and are upgraded over time, as this patch shows how Final Fantasy XIV has handled similar situations in the past. The official website for Patch 7.5 confirms that new quests to enhance these Phantom Weapons will be included in the update.

PvP Gets a New Crystalline Conflict Stage

Update 7.5 introduces Archeia Harmonias, a brand-new map for Crystalline Conflict. According to Square Enix, this map features unique elements like aetherometers, aetherial bridges, and healing glyphs, making it strategically different from other maps and not just a simple visual change.

This update offers more than just new story and raid content. It also includes a brand-new PvP map with unique features for how players move and battle, making the overall patch feel more substantial than one focused solely on the main story questline.

Gatherers, Crafters, and Side Systems Are Getting More Too

Beyond fighting, Square Enix announced new content coming in update 7.5, including a new ocean fishing area, a new destination for Cosmic Exploration called Auxesia, and updates to the Manderville Gold Saucer. They’ve also revealed that Auxesia will be connected to the ongoing Cosmic Tools storyline.

These changes are important because they ensure Patch 7.5 offers something for everyone, not just raiders. The updates also continue the trend of improving systems for players who enjoy gathering, crafting, exploration, and long-term goals in preparation for Dawntrail.

Housing, Storage, and Dye Changes Could Matter as Much as the Combat Additions

Update 7.5 will include several improvements to housing and general gameplay. Square Enix has announced that you’ll be able to place more furnishings both inside and outside your homes, and new furniture styles will be added. However, the ability to expand the size of your interior housing will be released in a future update, not in Patch 7.5.

The upcoming dye system update is a significant change. Square Enix is simplifying things by combining all the different dye items into just three categories. This will help reduce clutter in your inventory, but you’ll still have access to all the same colors. They’re also offering a way to automatically convert any dyes you currently have into the new system.

Storage is also getting a significant upgrade. The latest announcements confirmed that the armoire will now hold all gear for each job, as well as dungeon gear from the Heavensward expansion (3.0) and beyond – not just the latest expansion’s (7.x) sets. This clarifies exactly what’s changing with storage.

Patch 7.5 Is Big, but the 7.5x Rollout Is the Real Story

With Final Fantasy XIV’s Patch 7.5, Square Enix is releasing content in stages rather than all at once. The patch, arriving on April 28th, begins the ‘Trail to the Heavens’ storyline and includes a significant amount of new battles and system improvements. Even more major features will be added in future 7.5x updates, continuing the content rollout.

Although Patch 7.5 includes a lot of new story elements, improvements to player-versus-environment content, updates to player-versus-player battles, changes to housing, and overall system improvements, April 28th is just the start of a larger series of updates, not the final release.
