Square Enix is reportedly joining other game companies in using generative AI. They plan to automate 70% of their game testing and bug fixing processes with this technology by 2027.
In an update on its long-term plans, the publisher announced it’s collaborating with a University of Tokyo lab to use AI to make game development faster. A team of over ten people from both the university and Square Enix is aiming to automate 70% of the testing and bug-fixing process by the end of 2027.
Square Enix believes using generative AI will make its game testing process faster and help it stay ahead in game development. However, this will likely result in job losses for game testers.
Square Enix is joining a growing trend of game developers exploring artificial intelligence. Other companies like Krafton are investing heavily – Krafton is putting $70 million towards becoming an AI-focused company – and Electronic Arts (EA) has partnered with an AI firm, hoping it will help employees work more efficiently and unlock new creative possibilities.
