Now, whispers about an American adaptation of this worldwide hit are growing louder, with a well-known Australian star making a surprising appearance in the much-awaited final episode.
In the closing moments of the last episode, Cate Blanchett made a surprise appearance, leaving viewers speechless with a dramatic and impactful scene, further sparking discussions about a possible spin-off in the English language.

The setting here recalls the initial installment of Squid Game, featuring a similar moment where our character, Seong Gi-hun, engages in a ddakji game with a gentleman dressed in formal attire, much like before.
It is here Gi-hun first receives a contact to call to enter the brutal and bloody Squid Game.
Although there’s no official news about a U.S.-based spin-off series yet, whispers point towards the acclaimed filmmaker David Fincher potentially taking charge.
According to Hwang Dong-hyuk, the creator and director of Squid Game, there hasn’t been any official word about a spin-off, but he would be open to David Fincher joining the project.
In 2021, when Squid Game initially aired on Netflix, it rapidly gained worldwide popularity.
After a gap of three years, the second season was finally followed by the third and concluding one, which debuted on June 27th. These seasons were actually filmed consecutively.
Critics have highly commended Squid Game’s third season, with numerous glowing accolades given to its gripping narrative that boasts an impressive 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The show received a rating of 4.5 stars from Metro, who were thrilled with the finale and went so far as to say it left them speechless. They also praised the season, calling it almost flawlessly perfect.

As an utterly captivated admirer, I must confess that even with a generally three-star rating from The Guardian, the shocking twist at the end left me utterly speechless. It’s as if I was presented with something beyond the realm of possibility – something so astounding it defies belief!
According to Gizmodo, they described the season as both distressing and sorrowful. They concluded that Squid Game ended this grim finale with an unforgettable, extremely tragic twist.
However, it notes there also seems to be a ‘tease for more to come’ at the end.
Simultaneously, Indie Wire commended director Dong-hyuk for his relentless perspective that propelled Squid Game to its conclusion.
However, not everyone was so impressed as the Hollywood Reporter dubbed the ending ‘unsatisfying’.
Online viewers have already expressed their opinions and one user on Rotten Tomatoes commented: ‘Thus far, it’s promising; I just finished watching the initial episode!’
I’m still very attached to each character, eagerly anticipating future events. I’ll be sure to revise my review as I continue to watch.
An additional comment was made: ‘The direction, plot, soundtrack, and powerful performances by the actors were all superb, and the conclusion was also impressive.’

‘It was so fun that I regret not seeing it again.’
The original comment conveyed a sense of tension and excitement throughout the experience, culminating in an unpredictable, thrilling final match. The unexpected outcome left them with a mix of emotions – love and heartbreak, yet it felt fitting as the conclusion.
Despite garnering some criticism, one viewer commented: ‘The pace was too quick, the storyline wasn’t compelling, and the conclusion was disappointing.’
This season was highly awaited, yet it derailed spectacularly despite having all the necessary resources.
The captivating storyline, tension, and emotional intensity kept viewers hooked, but by the finale of Season 3, it felt like we didn’t even know the characters anymore. Netflix, I hope for improved performances in the future.
Initially, the creator and director of Squid Game, Hwang Dong-hyuk, explained the genuine motive behind dividing the series into two separate sections.
At the premiere of Squid Game season three, TopMob had a conversation with Dong-hyuk, aged 54. He shared that initially, he hadn’t intended for the series to span over two seasons.
Initially, I had planned for just one season with a single storyline. However, while working on it, it expanded into approximately 13 individual episodes. I’ve realized that releasing this many episodes at once might be overwhelming, so I’m considering breaking it up into separate seasons instead.
‘And I also thought it was too long when you look at current trends.
I figured that we intended to divide the storyline, and if we were to do so, at the climax of episode seven, when Seong Gi-hun experiences his lowest point following his uprising’s failure…
‘I thought that was the just the right moment to sort of dividing into two chapters.;
All seasons of Squid Game are available to stream exclusively on Netflix.
