In the game STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl, the Monolith’s call to ‘come to me’ wasn’t a suggestion to switch platforms. However, it seems like STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl didn’t get that memo, as it’s leaving Xbox Game Pass and heading to PlayStation 5.
The popular game STALKER 2 from GSC Game World will be available on PlayStation 5 on November 20th, almost a year after its release on PC and Xbox. While PlayStation fans are looking forward to the game, players who subscribe to Xbox Game Pass won’t have access to it as it won’t be on that service.
Look, games rotate on Game Pass, I get it. But STALKER 2 leaving now really sucks. It’s a long game, and honestly, it had a rough start. A lot of us held off playing it, hoping they’d fix all the bugs and glitches, and now it’s going to be off the service before we even had a good chance to dive in!
STALKER 2 Leaves Game Pass Players Stranded

I’m a pretty typical fan of the STALKER series. I’ve completed the original three games a few times, and I’ve spent countless hours playing STALKER Anomaly, including the very challenging GAMMA expansion.
I was so hyped for STALKER 2 – it felt like it was going to be a major gaming moment last year. But honestly, playing it was a real struggle. I spent more time dealing with bugs and waiting for things to load than actually enjoying the Zone, and even when I was exploring, it just didn’t feel as alive or interesting as I’d hoped.
The team has been diligently working on the most ambitious STALKER game yet, and after a year of effort, it’s finally starting to look complete.
Many players are disappointed to see this game leave Game Pass, especially those who were waiting for improvements before starting another playthrough. If you were playing through Xbox Game Pass, your progress will unfortunately be cut short.
From now on, the game costs $59.99 for everyone playing. If you’re a PC player, be aware that your saved progress might not transfer between different platforms. Specifically, if you stop playing through Xbox Game Pass and want to continue on Steam or the Epic Games Store, you’ll need to purchase the game through the Xbox store to keep your progress.
Last year, a Reddit user named RudestBuddhist shared a guide explaining how to transfer saved game data from Xbox Game Pass to other game versions. This method should still work unless the way those files are organized changes. Currently, there isn’t a way to transfer achievements, though.
The issues surrounding the release of STALKER 2 are the latest problem for Xbox, coming after a price increase that caused many people to cancel their pre-orders. Hopefully, significant discounts during Black Friday sales will help ease the disappointment. After all, in the world of STALKER, we shouldn’t price players out of the experience – that’s a job for the in-game trader, Sidorovich.
