STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl Update 1.7 brings persistent faction battle & territory control

STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl received a major update this week, bringing several improvements to the game. Key additions include Expedition Mode, which focuses on survival, and more realistic AI where different groups will battle for control of areas. Update 1.7 includes many other enhancements as well.

With the PS5 release of STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl just days away, GSC Game World has detailed Update 1.7. While the update includes a new Master Difficulty and Expedition mode, the biggest change is likely to be dynamic faction warfare. Different groups of humans and mutants will now battle for control of territory within The Zone, and players can expect to get caught in the middle while pursuing their own goals. This means a more reactive and unpredictable world as factions fight for dominance.

Even on lower difficulties, Master Difficulty and especially Expedition Mode will offer a real challenge. Expedition Mode changes how the game works no matter the difficulty: you can only save manually by quitting, and the game only auto-saves when you enter or leave a camp. This means long journeys – a common part of STALKER 2, and a highlight according to Shacknews reviewer Sam Chandler – can be risky if you’re not careful.

I’m so excited! STALKER 2 on PC just got updated to version 1.7! And good news for console players – when the game launches on consoles, it’ll be with this same 1.7 update. I’ll be keeping an eye on the STALKER 2 news for any further updates, so stay tuned!
