On December 16th, Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl will get a big, free update. It includes new story elements and a brand-new weapon, according to the game’s developer, GSC Game World.
A new update for Stories Untold sends players to a previously unexplored western area of the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone after receiving a distress signal. GSC Game World announced that this update includes seven new locations, six new characters, and several hours of fresh gameplay.
GSC Game World suggests players carefully explore the Red Forest area on the map. They encourage using both logic and instinct to uncover its secrets and discover how far the investigation will lead. The Fairy Tale Pioneer Camp and the Old Mine are also highlighted as worthwhile locations to visit within the Red Forest.
Stalker 2 currently features more than 30 weapons, and a new one – the GP37V2 rifle – will be added in an upcoming update. This rifle is designed for players who prefer a tactical approach. It doesn’t fire continuously, but allows for both single shots and short bursts, and it comes standard with a silencer and a scope for improved accuracy.
GSC Game World says that while making mistakes can be costly, a capable player will find the GP37V2 to be a powerful and accurate weapon.
This update adds a new central location in the Burnt Forest, offering players access to characters and a secure storage space for items. Plus, previously empty areas will now be populated with more Stalkers, making the world feel more alive.
Earlier this year, TopMob visited the offices of GSC Game World in Prague to speak with the Ukrainian team developing Stalker 2. They discussed the difficult process of creating the game while Russia invaded Ukraine, and how a fire at the office caused further setbacks.
Despite being available on Game Pass from day one, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 quickly sold over a million copies after its November 2024 release and was named one of TopMob’s ten best games of the year. Developer GSC Game World continued to improve the game in the months following launch, releasing a major update in March that included over 1,200 fixes and enhancements to almost every part of the experience, including combat and performance. The game became available on PlayStation 5 on November 20, 2025, with optimizations for the PS5 Pro console.
