The launch of the authentic Zone Kit modification tools for Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl has sparked a surge in modding for GSC Game World’s open-world survival game. Players have been expanding the game with more intense violence, while others are tweaking the overall experience, but one enthusiast has introduced authentic Moon phases to the latest installment.
Stalker 2 modder upgrades the Moon
DMCooller’s modification for Stalker 2, titled “The Moon,” alters the static moonscape in the current game version to one that dynamically changes. Synchronized with the game’s day-night cycle, players will observe the Moon moving throughout their gameplay experience.
After installing the module, you’ll notice that the moon will show varied phases and occasionally seem bigger than normal. Each lunar cycle, which takes about 29.5 days, will see the moon transitioning through all twelve different stages as it goes on.
As a gamer, I’ve found an inconsistency that can be frustrating: The phases of the moon in my game don’t carry over between saves. So, I could save when there’s just a sliver of a crescent, but when I load back up, it might not look the same. Also, if I have mods tweaking Stalker 2’s day/night cycle length, the moon seems to adapt according to those modifications. It’d be cool if the moon’s state persisted across saves and remained consistent regardless of any mod adjustments.
The Stalker 2 mod enriches the game’s expansive open world, making it seem even more authentic. Yet, despite the game’s inherent intricacy, modder Dmcooller has acknowledged that not everyone fully appreciates the finer details within the game.
The developer has already added many subtle touches that often go unnoticed, like the bats I spotted only during my mod development at night. He pointed out these details, mentioning how he discovered them himself while working on this mod. Moreover, he expressed a desire to increase the number of stars in the game’s night sky, but doing so would require additional resources.
