Disney has a history of frustrating Star Wars fans, particularly after canceling the finished script for The Hunt for Ben Solo – a project many hoped would improve feelings about the sequel trilogy following the disappointing The Rise of Skywalker. It appears they may have repeated this mistake by withholding new information about the Knights of Ren.
The final episode of The Acolyte ended with Qimir (Manny Jacinto), also called The Stranger, taking on Osha (Amandla Stenberg) as his apprentice. Viewers also saw Darth Plagueis, the former master of Emperor Palpatine, observing them from afar, which raised many unanswered questions. Recently, Leslye Headland, the showrunner for The Acolyte, shared that Qimir was originally intended to be the first Knight of Ren introduced in the Star Wars universe – not a Sith Lord, as many viewers assumed. The Knights of Ren were a mysterious group connected to the Sith, first appearing in the sequel trilogy, but their history and details were never fully explained.
What Would This Have Meant For The Acolyte?

In an interview with TVInsider, Jacinto discussed potential storylines for a second season that ultimately didn’t happen. He expressed interest in further developing the relationship between Osha and Qimir, as well as exploring the dynamic between Qimir and Vernestra Rwoh. He also touched on the Knights of Ren, mentioning a possibility – clarified by Leslye – that Qimir could have been one of the original members, which was a storyline they considered.
He expressed his eagerness to reprise his role as Qimir, saying he’d jump at the chance if given the opportunity. He considers the role in The Acolyte a career highlight, and is proud of the dynamic between Qimir and Osha. When asked about their connection, he pointed out a lack of romance in many current franchises, noting they often focus on action and origins without exploring meaningful relationships. He believes the Qimir and Osha relationship stood out because it brought that human connection back into a large-scale story, making the characters and plot more engaging than just relying on action sequences.
There was a lot of excitement for a show like The Acolyte, so its cancellation is disappointing. It unfortunately damages fans’ confidence in Disney’s management of the Star Wars franchise.
