Star of iconic British sci-fi TV series wants return for reboot: “I could bring so much more to it now”

Sally Knyvette, who starred in the classic 1970s sci-fi series Blake’s 7, is eager to reprise her role in the new reboot. She believes she could bring a lot more depth to the character now, and fans would be thrilled to see her return.

Knyvette played Jenna Stannis in the show’s first run, from 1978 to 1979. She’s talked about why she left, explaining she was unhappy with the way her character changed – she felt Jenna went from being a strong, adventurous space pirate to a much more stereotypical and passive ‘dolly bird’.

I was so excited to hear that Peter Hoar, along with Matthew Bouch and Jason Haigh-Ellery, have officially gotten the rights to the show and are planning a reboot! As a big fan, I’m really curious to see what they come up with.

I happily left it behind when I went to university in the 1970s, assuming it would stay in the past. Surprisingly, it’s stayed with me ever since, and now I have a real affection for it.

It’s unclear if Jenna will return, as her storyline ended with a lot of questions. Knyvette hinted at her possible survival, stating, “I’m alive! And even if I wasn’t, they could always clone me.”

She confirmed the character is still alive and well in the Big Finish audio dramas. Reflecting on her earlier experience with the role, she said she felt insecure and inexperienced at the time, focusing on the glamorous aspects but wanting to explore deeper acting. Now, she feels confident she can bring a much richer performance to the character.

Although no actors have been announced yet, Knyvette shared what she’s looking for in the cast of the upcoming reboot.

She hoped the new team would be similar to the original and have the same special chemistry as theirs. She described her team as having a bit of magic.

Everyone worked together really well, and we managed to get through some challenging times by using humor. It was necessary to stay positive because the work itself was quite demanding back then.

Knyvette expressed hope that fans would request the original cast be involved in any reboot, stating, “I think they will.”
