Star Trek Finally Reveals Voyager’s Official Replacement

But with streaming, it’s finally getting the attention it deserves! Looking back, the characters and storylines feel surprisingly ahead of their time – really progressive for what was happening back then. It’s become a real gem of the franchise, honestly.

The USS Voyager has become increasingly popular with Star Trek fans. Captain Kathryn Janeway and her crew fearlessly journeyed into a previously unexplored area of space. The show Star Trek: Voyager, which ran for seven seasons from 1995 to 2001, helped carry the Star Trek legacy into the 21st century.

Voyager has become a beloved classic, and its influence is so strong that a new Star Trek series is honoring the show by introducing a next-generation starship built as a successor to the USS Voyager.

Starfleet Academy Reveals The Latest Intrepid-Class Starship

In the sixth episode of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, titled “Come, Let’s Away,” cadets from Starfleet Academy compete in a training exercise against students from the War College aboard the USS Miyazaki. During the exercise, the ship is attacked by an alien race called The Furies. Captain Ake (Holly Hunter) and Admiral Vance (Oded Fehr) then make the surprising decision to seek help from a former enemy, Nus Braka (Paul Giamatti), who has previously fought The Furies. Braka suggests using a sonic weapon, similar to one already installed on the USS Sargasso, a new and experimental Intrepid-class starship.

It was all a setup. Braka planned the whole thing to steal from the weapons facility. The Furies were aware the Saragasso was on its way and destroyed it before it could cause any problems.

Star Trek Is Ready For A New Voyager

Although the Saragasso existed for a short time, it revealed important details. Starfleet’s Starbase J-19 Alpha was working on cutting-edge technology, including a new Intrepid-class ship equipped with unique sonic weapons. This indicates Starfleet is refocusing on its original mission of exploring and mapping the universe, particularly after the devastating event known as “The Burn.” Given how divided and isolated the galaxy has become, it’s crucial for Starfleet to venture out and investigate what’s happening, especially in previously off-limits areas where they haven’t been for many years.

The big question is whether Star Trek: Starfleet Academy will fully commit to this new storyline and expand it like Star Trek: The Next Generation did, creating a whole range of related shows. The first season has been subtly weaving in references to previous Star Trek series and events within this new 32nd-century world. After acknowledging the history of Deep Space Nine in Episode 5, Episode 6 now seems to be quietly setting the stage for a fresh take on the core idea behind Star Trek: Voyager.
