Almost three decades after it first aired, an actor from Deep Space Nine is returning to the Star Trek universe in a popular video game. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine began as a spin-off of Star Trek: The Next Generation and ran for seven seasons, introducing fans to memorable elements like the Changelings, the Dominion, and the Gamma Quadrant, along with complex political and spy storylines. The show boasted a talented cast, including actors from previous series and new faces, and is remembered for building detailed religious and political worlds, making it one of the most compelling shows of the 1990s.
On February 3, 2026, Arc Games announced that Nicole de Boer will be returning to the world of Star Trek Online with the new Corruption update. The game, Star Trek Online, is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) originally launched in 2010 by Cryptic Studios and has been consistently updated with fresh content over the years. De Boer will once again play Ezri Dax, the ninth host of the Dax symbiote, a character she originally portrayed following the death of Jadzia Dax (played by Terry Farrell) in the final episode of Season 6 of Deep Space Nine.
Nicole De Boer Returns to the Franchise in Star Trek Online

A recent announcement revealed that Ronald D. Moore will be returning to work on Star Trek. The news also highlighted a significant achievement for Star Trek Online: 2026 will be its 16th year running, making it the longest-lasting Star Trek series ever. Throughout its history, the game has featured storylines and characters from many Star Trek shows, including Star Trek, Voyager, Enterprise, Deep Space Nine, and The Next Generation. The first big update of 2026, called Corruption, will launch to celebrate Star Trek’s 60th anniversary. It will be available on PC starting February 17, 2026, and on PlayStation and Xbox consoles from March 10, 2026.

Ezri Dax, introduced in the 1998 episode “Image in the Sand,” sparked debate among fans. This was mainly because the previous actress, Terry Farrell, had been a core part of Deep Space Nine since the start, with a significant storyline including her marriage to Worf. While some viewers embraced the change when Nana Visitor took on the role, others didn’t. However, Visitor proved to be a strong addition to the cast, offering a fresh perspective on the Dax character and bringing new dynamics to the show.
Although Nana Visitor only appeared on Deep Space Nine for one season, she’s continued to connect with fans at conventions and talk about her experience on the show. Now, she’s revisiting the role that first gained her recognition thanks to the Corruption update in Star Trek Online. This isn’t her first return to the Star Trek universe since DS9 ended, though – she previously reprised her role in Star Trek Online Season 31, “Both Worlds,” which launched in January 2024. While she’s worked on other shows like The Dead Zone and Stargate Atlantis, her continued involvement with Star Trek Online shows her support for Deep Space Nine and the Star Trek franchise. Fans can see her in action again in Star Trek Online starting February 17, 2026.
