Star Trek showrunner offers exciting update on potential new spin-off set to revisit iconic era

Although the future of Star Trek is currently a bit unclear, one of the people in charge of the show says they have plenty of ideas for what could happen next.

Henry Alonso Myers, a co-showrunner of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds with Akiva Goldsman, has revealed that they’ve submitted a proposal for a new series, titled Star Trek: Year One, to Paramount+. The streaming service is now considering the pitch.

Year One would continue the story after Strange New Worlds, focusing on Paul Wesley as James T. Kirk aboard the USS Enterprise.

We’ve shared a lot of ideas with them,” Myers recently said. “We’ve given them plenty to consider, and now it’s up to them to decide what to do with it. They clearly appreciate our show and, of course, the Star Trek franchise as a whole.

He explained they believe the show would be fantastic and a natural progression for the Star Trek storyline they’ve been developing, but ultimately the decision isn’t up to them.

Goldsman has stated that the last episode of Strange New Worlds, concluding after its fifth season, will depict Kirk taking command for the very first time.

Year One will expand on his backstory, leading up to his appearance in the classic Star Trek episode, “Where No Man Has Gone Before.”

Ethan Peck, Jess Bush, Martin Quinn, and Celia Rose Gooding – the actors who play Spock, Christine Chapel, Scotty, and Uhura – might also appear in the series.

Despite finishing filming its fifth season late last year, Strange New Worlds still has two more seasons scheduled to be released.

Season 4 is expected to air sometime this year.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is available to stream on Paramount+.
