Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Actors Wrao Season 2 Filming: Impact On Paramount+ Franchise

The cast of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy has finished filming the second season. This is significant for the Star Trek universe on Paramount+, overseen by Alex Kurtzman. Currently, Starfleet Academy is one of only two Star Trek shows still in production for the streaming service. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds completed its fifth and final season in December 2025, with seasons four and five already filmed and ready to be released.

With three episodes left in its first season, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy currently has an 88% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Good news for fans: Paramount+ ordered a second season during the production of season one, and filming has already been underway for several months at Pinewood Studios Toronto.

I’m so excited! Some of my favorite cast members from Star Trek: Starfleet Academy just announced they’ve finished filming season 2! Kerrice Brooks (SAM), Gina Yashere (Commander Lura Thok), and Karim Diané (Jay-Den Kraag) all shared the news on Instagram. Karim’s last day was even posted by an assistant director, Jess Smallwood. You can find the stories online if you want to check them out – it’s great to see them wrapping up and get us closer to the new season!

Filming for the second season of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy has finished, with Kerrice Brooks and Karim Diané completing their work over the weekend. Gina Yashere finished filming last week and immediately flew to Florida to join Star Trek: The Cruise, which departed for the Caribbean on Friday after she removed her makeup and prosthetics from her role as Lura Thok.

Alex Kurtzman, an executive producer and co-showrunner, directed the season 2 finale of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, similar to how he directed the first two episodes of season 1. While season 2 isn’t completely finished, its completion will signify the end of production for all Star Trek series executive produced by Kurtzman and Secret Hideout. Secret Hideout has been responsible for overseeing every Star Trek show on Paramount+ since Star Trek: Discovery premiered in 2017.

With the upcoming seasons of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy and the final seasons of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds on the horizon, the future of Star Trek on Paramount+ is uncertain. This is due to Skydance Media’s acquisition of Paramount Global in 2025, and reports that Alex Kurtzman’s contract as an executive producer for Star Trek ends in late 2026.

The future of Alex Kurtzman and his Secret Hideout production company’s involvement with the Star Trek TV shows is uncertain, as Paramount Skydance may choose a different path forward. Kurtzman has expressed a desire for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy to last four seasons, mirroring a typical four-year college experience for the characters. However, whether the show will get a third season remains unclear.

The first two episodes of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy didn’t perform as well in Nielsen streaming ratings compared to shows like Star Trek: Discovery, the third season of Star Trek: Picard, and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. However, the show is gaining traction on social media – particularly on platforms like TikTok and Instagram – where its young adult audience spends a lot of time.

Social media buzz suggests that Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is a hit on Paramount+, often reaching the top three shows and even briefly surpassing Landman in viewership when new episodes are released, showing a growing fanbase. There are still 13 episodes of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy left to air, plus 16 episodes planned for seasons 4 and 5 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

We hope Paramount+ renews Star Trek: Starfleet Academy for seasons 3 and 4. This would allow characters like Caleb Mir, Jay-Den Kraag, SAM, Genesis Lythe, Darem Reymi, Tarima Sadal, and Ocam Sadal to complete their four years at the Academy and officially become Starfleet Officers.
