The Wall of Heroes at Starfleet Academy, featured in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, might foreshadow tragic fates for some characters in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. This impressive display in the USS Athena’s Sato Atrium honors both famous Starfleet figures and the real-life people who brought Star Trek to life.
Set in 3195, four years after the events of Star Trek: Discovery, the USS Athena features a Wall of Heroes that commemorates the entire thousand-year history of Starfleet. Interestingly, the wall lists the characters’ apparent final ranks, with some unexpected inclusions like Admiral Harry Kim (played by Garrett Wang) and Ambassador Garak (Andrew Robinson).
The crew of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds – including Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount), Ambassador Spock (Ethan Peck), Commander Christine Chapel (Jess Bush), Lt. Commander Joseph M’Benga (Babs Olusanmokun), Lt. JG Sam Kirk (Dan Jeannotte), Captain Montgomery Scott (Martin Quinn), and Commander Pelia (Carol Kane) – are honored on the Wall of Heroes in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.
What Does Starfleet Academy’s Legacy Wall Mean For Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Ending?
Both Lieutenant La’an Noonien-Singh (played by Christina Chong) and Lieutenant Erica Ortegas (Melissa Navia) are honored on the Wall of Heroes at Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. However, this creates a bit of a storyline issue for these popular characters from Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
The ‘Wall of Heroes’ at Starfleet Academy in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy suggests that La’an Noonien-Singh and Erica Ortegas never achieved ranks higher than Lieutenant after the events of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Given that both characters were created for Strange New Worlds and aren’t part of the crew when Captain Kirk (played by William Shatner and Paul Wesley) takes command, this raises the possibility that one or both of them might die.
It appears Lt. Commander Una Chin-Riley (Rebecca Romijn) isn’t included on Starfleet Academy’s Wall of Heroes. Combined with the fact that she doesn’t appear to be joining Captain Kirk on the Enterprise, her absence from the wall suggests she may have met with a tragic end, unless she’s featured in an area of the wall we haven’t seen yet.
Filming wrapped on the fifth and final season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds in December 2025, but fans still have two seasons and 16 episodes to look forward to. While the arrival of Captain Kirk’s Enterprise is exciting – and will introduce Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy, played by Thomas Jane, and Mr. Sulu, played by Kai Murakami – it will also mean saying goodbye to beloved characters La’an, Ortegas, and Una.
It’s unclear what the future holds for Number One, Ortegas, and La’an as Star Trek: Strange New Worlds progresses. They might be transferred to new ships, leave Starfleet, or, unfortunately, even face death. Considering what the Wall of Heroes in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy reveals—or doesn’t reveal—about these characters, the outlook for Una, La’an, and Erica isn’t promising.
Is Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’s Wall Of Heroes Set In Stone?
The show Star Trek: Starfleet Academy takes place far in the future, the 32nd century. And, because anything shown on a Star Trek TV show or movie is generally considered official story material, the Wall of Heroes featured in Starfleet Academy seems to definitively establish the fates of many Star Trek characters. However, it’s possible that’s not entirely true.
The Wall of Heroes at Starfleet Academy might not be completely accurate. Some names could be missing simply because of limited space, and not because revealing them would spoil details from Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. It’s also possible the wall could be updated and corrected in the future.
The ‘Wall of Heroes’ in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy might be updated over time as the show continues, essentially becoming a work in progress. It’s likely there are mistakes on the wall that could be fixed with feedback – and discussion – from dedicated Star Trek fans and those knowledgeable about the series.
Whether the ‘Wall of Heroes’ in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy reveals anything about the fates of La’an Noonien-Singh, Erica Ortegas, and Una Chin-Ruley is currently unknown and could potentially spoil the ending of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
It’s also possible that Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is hinting at difficult or frightening futures for popular characters like Una, La’an, and Ortegas before the end of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
