Star Trek: Strange New Worlds sneaks Doctor Who Easter egg into season 3 finale

There are plenty of things to resolve in the final episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 – yet, it’s evident that there is ample space in the script for an enjoyable wink-and-a-nod to Doctor Who.

A mere handful of weeks after the authors playfully confounded Doctor Who enthusiasts by sneaking in the TARDIS during a brief, easily overlooked scene, another Star Trek offshoot has alluded to our beloved Time Lord yet again.

According to TV Insider’s sneak peek at the final episode, Captain Kirk (played by Anson Mount) acknowledges that the last few months have been particularly tough for the Starship Enterprise.

With a mocking tone, Carol Kane’s Pelia counters: “Oh, so difficult, is it? Let me share a tale of my past encounters with a time-traveling physician I used to know.

Pelia, an ancient Lanthanite who has lived for millennia, frequently speaks of remarkable experiences from her past – it comes as no shock to learn that she must have crossed paths with The Doctor during their respective lifetimes.

Star Trek and Doctor Who often subtly acknowledge one another, as seen lately when the TARDIS made an early-season appearance, and in Ncuti Gatwa’s debut episode, there was a nod to Star Trek within the storyline.

Previously, during a joint panel discussion, the creators of Doctor Who, Russell T Davies, and Star Trek, Alex Kurtzman, expressed their shared ambitions for a potential crossover event.

In my enthusiasm, I can’t help but express a dream: “If only I could share the exciting prospect of blending the universes of Star Trek and Doctor Who! Alas, it seems we’re not embarking on that adventure just yet.
