IDW’s new Star Trek series, Star Trek: The Last Starship, has gotten off to a fantastic start. The first issue was a big success with critics and sold out immediately, leading to a rare second printing. It’s the biggest launch for a Star Trek comic at IDW since the series was originally reintroduced, and fans are clearly loving it. ComicBook is now offering an exclusive first look at the cover for that second printing, just before pre-orders close.
The new cover for the second printing of Star Trek: The Last Starship #1 prominently features Captain Kirk, which makes sense given his central role in the story. In the first issue, Kirk is brought back to life when the Federation is on the brink of collapse. With only one starship remaining to fight for the future, everything depends on this final vessel and the hope of restoring the Federation. You can see the cover image below!
Star Trek: The Last Starship’s Success is “Unbelievable” (In a Good Way)

The first issue of Star Trek: The Last Starship is being reprinted due to incredible demand, which writers Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing called “unbelievable.” They shared that the series has been more successful than they ever imagined, and hinted that even bigger surprises are coming in future issues for Star Trek fans.
We’re thrilled to announce that The Last Starship is getting a second printing! According to Kelly and Lanzing, this Star Trek comic is the most unique and ambitious project they’ve worked on in the last ten years, specifically designed for the comics format. They’re grateful for the enthusiastic support from fans and retailers, and excited that more readers will have a chance to experience the beginning of the story with issue #1, especially with the surprising developments coming in issue #2. This will help The Last Starship reach a wider audience within the comics community.
We’re thrilled by the incredible response to The Last Starship,” said Heather Antos, our editor. “The series really embodies the core values of Star Trek – exploration, optimism, and working together – and the fact that it’s already being reprinted shows how much people still connect with the world of the Federation.”
What Makes Star Trek: The Last Starship So Special?

One of the most praised aspects of Star Trek: The Last Starship is how much it feels like watching a movie. Even those unfamiliar with Star Trek will find the story emotionally engaging, similar to experiencing a television episode or film. The book immediately draws readers in by establishing high stakes and creating a strong emotional connection.
The Last Starship is unique because it welcomes new readers to the series while still satisfying longtime fans with plenty of familiar details and backstory. It strikes a perfect balance, immediately captivating readers and making them want to continue the story.
You have until November 24th to pre-order the second printing of Star Trek: The Last Starship #1, which features a new cover! The second issue in the series is available for purchase now.
