Star Wars Announces General Grievous’ Return In 2026 Prequel Story

Star Wars unveiled the eagerly anticipated comeback of General Grievous to the distant galaxy, as part of a fresh 2026 prequel narrative. Although he’s appeared in just one Star Wars film (plus various Lucasfilm TV series), Grievous is highly recognized as a prominent figure from the Prequel era. The last time viewers caught sight of the sword-wielding cyborg was in a brief cameo during 2024’s Tales of the Empire. Fortunately, fans yearning for more of Grievous will finally get their wish.

2026 will witness a significant return of General Grievous in literature, as revealed during Lucasfilm Publishing’s San Diego Comic-Con panel. Fans are thrilled about this development, but it remains uncertain whether he will appear on either the big or small screen, given upcoming projects like “Ahsoka” Season 2 and further episodes featuring “The Mandalorian & Grogu.

A new comic book prequel centered on General Grievous has been announced by Lucasfilm Publishing.

The upcoming comic titled “Star Wars: Hyperspace Stories: General Grievous” is a collaboration between Lucasfilm and Dark Horse Comics, set to hit the shelves in January 2026. It will be penned by Michael Moreci.

The prequel tale signifies the impressive comeback of the saber-twirling Separatist character within the Star Wars universe. This narrative delves into Grievous, tracing his journey during a Clone Wars-period assignment where the malevolent Count Dooku dispatches him on a mission to subjugate the forested planet Katou.

During my assignments, I often find myself squaring off against Jedi, and in one such instance, it was Master Cardiff Baye and his Clone Troopers. The confrontation left me no choice but to demonstrate my abilities to my fellow Sith comrades.

Count Dooku dispatched General Grievous to subjugate the jungle world Katou. This mission serves as a test for Grievous to demonstrate his value to his Sith superiors. The inhabitants of Katou, simple herders, stand little chance against Grievous’ mechanical menace. However, upon the arrival of Jedi Knight Cardiff Baye and his clone soldiers, Grievous adopts a more covert strategy in the forest. Will the general’s raw power overpower the heroes of the Republic, or will his bestial instincts ultimately be his undoing?

Star Wars: Hyperspace Tales: General Grievous” joins the series of the franchise’s “Hyperspace Tales,” a collection that previously welcomed back fan favorites like the Bad Batch. This graphic novel offers standalone adventures focused on iconic characters from the expansive Star Wars universe. The anticipated release date for this comic book is January 14, 2026, in your local comic book stores.

When Will Fans See General Grievous On-Screen Again?

Unlike popular Star Wars characters such as Ahsoka, Anakin Skywalker, and everyone’s favorite little one (Grogu), it appears that General Grievous is not currently planned for a comeback in the official Star Wars lineup.

Indeed, with “Star Wars: Clone Wars” concluding in the year 2020, General Grievous has since then remained largely absent from any Star Wars film or series. However, this absence doesn’t necessarily mean we won’t see him again in the future.

Following his brief appearance in last year’s “Tales of the Empire”, there has been an overwhelming excitement among fans for more of this beloved character from the Prequel era.

There’s been lots of discussion about where we might see this character reappear, and various projects seem promising as possible venues for a grand comeback.

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but speculate about the potential return of the formidable General Grievous in Season 2 of Ahsoka. If Dave Filoni were to delve once more into the depths of the Clone Wars era, perhaps with a more detailed flashback, I firmly believe that Grievous could make another appearance. It’s an exciting prospect for us fans!

In another possible turn of events, we might find him in the upcoming “Maul: Shadow Lord” series. This new storyline, a continuation of “Clone Wars,” primarily revolves around Sam Witwer’s Darth MauL navigating the galaxy post-Order 66. Given that Grievous is believed to be present during the time of “Shadow Lord,” wouldn’t it be intriguing if he made an appearance in this dark, animated saga?
