Star Wars recently shared new artwork honoring twelve of its most popular Black characters. Throughout the series, the Star Wars galaxy has always included a wide range of backgrounds and cultures, and that extends to its characters. This has resulted in a memorable collection of Black heroes and villains who have become iconic parts of the saga.
New commemorative Star Wars comic book covers for Black History Month 2026 have been unveiled. They include a stunning new artwork showcasing 12 Black characters from throughout the Star Wars universe (as reported by Star Wars Holocron).

A special, one-of-a-kind artwork by celebrated comic artist Taurin Clarke will be released as part of the franchise’s Black History celebration in February 2026. The artwork will be featured as connecting covers for issues of Star Wars #10 and Star Wars: Jar Jar #1, forming a single, larger image when placed together.

Finn

John Boyega’s character, Finn, is a fan favorite from the recent Star Wars films and is celebrated as a hero in the fight against the First Order. He started as a stormtrooper for the oppressive regime, but ultimately realized the error of his ways and defected.
Since the end of the last Star Wars trilogy, Finn hasn’t appeared in any of the films, but there’s been talk he might be in the upcoming movie starring Daisy Ridley, if that project moves forward.
Jannah

I was really intrigued by Jannah when she showed up in the sequels. Like Finn, she’s an ex-Stormtrooper who decided the First Order wasn’t for her. But instead of immediately joining the Resistance, she and a group of others built a life for themselves on the beautiful, watery moon of Kef Bir. It was a cool way to show there were different paths for those escaping the First Order’s control.
She led her people until Finn, Rey, and Poe arrived during The Rise of Skywalker. This brought her into the galactic conflict between the Resistance and the First Order, and she fought in the Battle of Exegol.
Moff Gideon

First on our list of villains is Moff Gideon, a truly frightening character. Actor Giancarlo Esposito, known for his role in Breaking Bad, plays Gideon in the Disney+ series The Mandalorian. Gideon leads a group that continues the Empire’s goals even after the Emperor is gone.
This discovery brings the character face-to-face with Gorgu, a young and powerful individual who might know how to bring Emperor Palpatine back to life. Though Gorgu seemingly died at the end of The Mandalorian Season 3, much like the Emperor, a return isn’t out of the question.
Greef Karga

Greef Karga, played by the late, great Carl Weathers, is a character from The Mandalorian featured in this new artwork celebrating Black History. He’s the one who gives Din Djarin (played by Pedro Pascal) the job that eventually leads him to find and care for the incredibly strong and lovable Gorgu.
Since appearing in Season 1 of The Mandalorian, Greef Karga has risen to power, now governing the planet Nevarro as its High Magistrate. He’s in charge of the local government on this mostly desolate world.
Sana Starros

Sana Starros is a popular character from the Star Wars comics. She first appeared in 2015’s Star Wars #4 as a skilled mercenary who carries a gun. Sana is a human woman living during the time of the Galactic Civil War.
Sana Starros previously studied at Bar’leth University and surprisingly asserts she was once married to Han Solo. After the Battle of Yavin, she begins searching for him, hoping to reconnect with the famous smuggler.
Lando Calrissian

Lando Calrissian is one of the most charming characters in the Star Wars universe. Originally portrayed by Billy Dee Williams in the original films and later by Donald Glover in Solo: A Star Wars Story, Lando is a smooth-talking human smuggler who shares a history with Han Solo.
I remember hearing that he actually owned the Millennium Falcon first! It’s incredible to think about. He lost it to Han Solo in a Sabacc game, which is how Han ended up with the ship we all know and love. It’s wild to imagine him as the original owner of such an iconic starcruiser.
Saw Gerrera

Everyone imagines revolution differently, but Saw Gerrera’s version is filled with violence and chaos. He’s a radical who fought during the Clone Wars and the beginning of the Empire.
Following the Republic’s collapse, Saw disagrees with the groups forming the Rebel Alliance. Rather than cooperate, he strikes out on his own, confronting the Empire with aggressive and often uncontrolled force.
Cere Junda

I’m a huge fan of Cere Junda! She’s one of the very few Jedi Masters who actually made it through Order 66, which is incredible. We first met her in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and it broke my heart to learn she’d been shutting herself off from the Force ever since the Republic fell. It’s a really powerful story.
But after meeting Jedi Cal Kestis, she starts to reconnect with the Force – the iconic energy field of the Star Wars universe – and begins teaching him how to use its power.
Kelleran Beq

Kelleran Beq’s story is one of the most compelling redemptions in Star Wars, and it’s remarkable because it focuses on his actions rather than a personal transformation. As revealed in Season 3 of The Mandalorian, Kelleran Beq was the Jedi who rescued Grogu during the tragic events of Order 66.
What’s particularly exciting is that Ahmed Best, famous for playing Jar Jar Binks in the Star Wars prequels, is the actor behind the character. His return to the franchise was a heartwarming moment for fans, who were thrilled to see him finally receive the appreciation he deserves after facing years of criticism.
Mace Windu

Mace Windu is such a powerful and impressive character that George Lucas created a unique purple lightsaber just for him. Samuel L. Jackson’s portrayal of the Jedi Master is particularly remembered for his intense duel with Emperor Palpatine right before the events of Order 66, and, of course, for that distinctive purple blade.
Even though his character, Mace Windu, fell from a window in Revenge of the Sith, Samuel L. Jackson has hinted he’d be interested in reprising the role in future Star Wars projects.
Keeve Trennis

Keeve Trennis was a Jedi who lived during the High Republic era. She’s known for her distinctive green lightsaber, which has two blades, and her hair, which is styled in tight curls.
Keeve has become a major character in the Star Wars comics set during the High Republic era, featured in many issues since she first appeared in 2021.
Lula Talisola

Lula Talisola is a Jedi Knight who lived during the High Republic era, as seen in the comics. She was a student of Master Yoda and was aboard the Star Hopper, a ship for young Jedi, when it came under attack by the Nihil.
She’s a rare Jedi character established as being from Naboo, the planet famous for being the home of key figures like Padmé Amidala and Jar Jar Binks.
