An interview with Adam Driver revealed that a completed script for a new Star Wars movie, titled The Hunt For Ben Solo, had been developed and pitched. The project came from Steven Soderbergh and Driver himself, with Scott Z. Burns writing the screenplay. It went through all the necessary approvals at Lucasfilm, but Disney ultimately rejected it – a first for a fully finished script. The reason? Disney, despite bringing Palpatine back in the last trilogy, worried that having Ben Solo still alive would create inconsistencies with the established storyline.

On Bluesky, director Alex Soderberg shared his surprise after learning from Lucasfilm president Kathy Kennedy that Disney had never actually rejected a completed script from the company. This revelation sparked a huge reaction online. Fans quickly launched “The Hunt for Ben Solo” campaign, dedicated to reviving the story of Ben Solo, with a website, artwork, and creative content. The campaign escalated with a plane flying a “Save #TheHuntForBenSolo” banner over Burbank, and most recently, a billboard appeared in Times Square proclaiming “Hope lives. Ben is alive!”

Many Star Wars fans have tried to forget The Rise of Skywalker, particularly those who were invested in the character of Ben Solo and his villainous alter ego, Kylo Ren. The Hunt for Ben Solo offered a glimmer of hope that the filmmakers might reconsider what many saw as a disappointing decision regarding his fate – the idea that his only path to redemption was through death. This message felt unsettling to many and ultimately left most fans unsatisfied. Recently, Matthew Wood, a sound editor for Lucasfilm and the voice of Lego Kylo Ren, asked fans at Spacecon if they’d like to see The Hunt for Ben Solo actually happen. A petition on Change.org is gaining traction, and even the official Star Wars YouTube channel has acknowledged the demand by sharing a clip of the final battle between Rey and Ben Solo from The Rise of Skywalker.
